Well referring to the species in wow as races is canon- As seen several times in questing and I believe dialogue too. Hell, when you are at the character creation screen, you are given a choice of races according to Blizzard, not species. It’s not a mishap, it’a how the game has always worked.
Yeah true but also we are not in the world of warcraft right now
Yeah but who cares? Terms that do not accurately portray a phenomenon are continuously used in IRL wrong too and as a result start to hold more/different meanings than they did before.
Describing wow’s characters as races and the strife between them as a result of racism is perfectly acceptable because both the setting itself and the players have used it since the dawn of the game.
Yeah its a thin line and most of the time the distinction isnt rlly worth making but i feel like it is on this particular topic of human skin colour racism VS humans hating orcs.
As said, there is skin color related racism in WoW- Certainly between dwarves pre- and probably dark irons joining the Alliance, and as proven among orcs who call other orcs greenskins.
Not among humans though.
Don’t make the mistake most fantasy writers make of conflating race and species.
There’s tons of species discrimination in Warcraft. There is no racism.
Edit: damn, dorn beat me to it so um
Trans rights idk
So source it then. Show us the canon examples of homophobia.
Dodger no, he was (incorrectly) referring to racism there.
Good example of how when someone’s point appears to be abhorrent or completely nonsensical you should usually try and get clarification on the matter if you have the spoons and/or time to do so.
Me saying “There is no racism in Warcraft” means one of a few things:
-
I am unaware of the incredibly obvious details of Orcs and Humans Not Liking Each Other
-
I mean something different to what you understand by the term racism
Trying to go for the dunk on someone at 1 when they actually mean 2 makes you look like a damp paper towel
(i just woke up and didn’t read the post he was quoting)
Does trolls vs trolls not count for that? ie. other trolls don’t like Gurubashi while being the same race
You must have some serious problems in life, if you get worked up about Roleplay like this.
Don’t like how someone treats your character? Deal with it IC or ignore the player if he’s tracking it to an OOC level.
And while you’re at it; Get over yourself.
You sound pretty worked up. Are you okay?
I don’t understand.
Is Albury saying we should just grow a thick skin and ignore homophobes or is she saying homophobes need to GTFO?
Insincere worries aside; I am feeling quite fine, thanks for asking.
Would “Both” be an appropriate answer, more leaning towards you getting a thicker skin?
I feel like this is a bit insensitive to the topic that has been discussed in the thread before this post.
It’s also kinda strange to claim people have problems because they don’t enjoy getting homophobic slurs thrown their way in a video game they enjoy(which also doesnt have this in the lore either)
It’s…a bit of a grey area, but I’d also say that ultimatly the trolls are still an entire fictional race, and the disslike for eachother runs a little deeper than the colour of their skin being green or blue etc. And I think most people understand this too.
But it becomes alot more questionable when you see humans badmouthing other humans for being brown(and no other reason behind it).
Oh man, I actually like the thickness of my skin, I just think homophobia is something ridiculous.
Edit: And has no place in a game people play to get away from real life, I mean it’s been confirmed homophobia does not exist in wow anyway.
Are you though? It seems like you’re quite frustrated by the topic given your aggressive ending line. Have you considered growing thicker skin?
I’ve said it before on another topic completly irrelevant to this, but the “lmao grow thick skin” is something I always consider very cheap…and kinda bad. Some people are softer and they should still be able to enjoy the game as much as they want.
i think instead i will report their ToS breach to a GM : )
the former of the two
most troll VS troll stuff would fall under racism, yes, although the cause for their clashes is generally more among worshipping the wrong loa or worshipping in the wrong way.
There is also a general cultural divide, such as the view on Cannibalism and other ways of life.
