I said let people play a fictional character, its my opinion that IC and OOC are very different things. Listen if you were talking about the real world or person on person attacking i’d be supporting you. I just think the is a difference vixi thats all
Where in the ToS is it said that no violence is allowed to exist in WoW
Also why do you struggle with basic empathy
So u agree but are being a pedant, cool
But this thing you want people to roleplay is prohibited by the rules of the game.
That’s it, no sneaking around it.
I have respect for the movement to a degree. I’ve been spoiled by seeing too much of the negative consequences that I prefer to stay away from it normally. It goes from respecting those of a different sexuality to borderline hating on heterosexuals, to hating white heterosexuals and so on. Which is sad, considering I also see the positive side but often find it is overshadowed. My personal thoughts as I said before are to ignore those cause you issue if it -really- is that bad, though i’d argue maybe talking with the person first, trying to come to an understanding perhaps if they’re willing. And if not, well, no love lost.
when you say “rules of the game” are you refering to TOS or the lore and history of the game?
The ToS in particular.
If people are afraid of getting dunked on for enabling homophobia i am quite okay with that
But don’t turn it into a movement where whole guilds and/or groups of friends are put in one basket, it just defeats the point.
Generally I wouldn’t. But if a GM refuses to address a character acting homophobicly, or worse yet, if the player doing that is the GM, which has happened in some cases, then it’s a more difficult challenge to act as if the whole guild isn’t complicit in the matter.
Not so much the afraid of getting dunked on, I was talking more like, being drowned out and hated despite giving points that could be valid. Not wanting to be a part of either side because of how the thread plays out.
The TOS state no hate speach but that is player on player - and I completely agree with that. However IC is not player on player its a fictional character directing it to another fictional character. Thats where i see the difference. I understand what you are saying however its my opinion its not the same thing
Which is exactly why people use it as main point in discussion, of course, when you hit the wall of no created by “if it exists in RL, it has to exist in WoW” RPers, ToS is used.
If you go back, the blood elf kept arguing with people how her character being homophobic made sense because of her headcanon about Thalassian society based on their extrapolations from lore, refusing the idea that homophobia simply doesn´t exist in the lore.
Do you do that IC or OOC out of curiosity? Like, do you OOCly whisper or do you ICly be like, Hey, your soldier just called me a ***** etc
CMs have said time and time again in the past over the course of numerous flinging drama threads over the years on Argent Dawn forums that role play interactions fall under the purview of the TOS.
Also the lore doesn’t support this kind of either so there’s no IC justification for doing it either.
What valid points are there for forcing homophobia into a setting actively free of it?
This thread has yet to show me any, same for its predecessor.
I’m going to explain how this reads to me, and no doubt to a number of others. I hope you will reflect on this.
“I have seen a fringe minority of people in a marginalised demographic become borderline militant as a response to their highly negative experiences with bigotry. Because they are now loud and angry too, I am going to assume the movement is bad and have no respect for it and the people it encompasses.”
Well…yes, if you want so. Because if “playing a anti-homosexual character” indeed violates the ToS and people would be banned for it…i am afraid that this might give haters and RP-enemys a weapon in hand with which they could target RP-Plots with fights.
And ToS says:
" Threatening […] another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used."
Every generic fight sequence contains some threats.
I’ve never had to, but I wouldn’t address that IC. I would just take that straight to OOC because I feel as if it is an OOC issue. IC I wouldn’t have my characters acknowledge the word - it has no basis in WoW, thus why would they acknowledge it?
But OOC people absolutely do.
Threatening another player.
Hi welcome to reading 101
IC interactions are not exempt from the ToS. For the same reason you don’t use irl slurs IC and instead you use in universe swear words.
