Before I start off this thread, let me remind you how the Horde was supposed to be:
Now, I don’t know what, or how things happened at Blizzard to suddenly shift this paradigm, but good lord, what happened to the Horde in that video?
Not to even mention the state of the Horde with Vulpera, who I think were simply introduced to cater to a fandom and checkmark the list of another group of possible customers catered to, let’s talk about the Horde lore as of now.
As of this moment, the Horde is led by a “council” (read; an Alliance between the races within the Horde, where each race is led by a representative).
Thrall, who was abscent since Cataclysm, showed up here and there to help things out. It’s clear that he has no interest in the Horde he built up from the ground. Why? I do not know. He supposedly tells us it’s because of his wife and children, yet it’s his wife that continuously pushes him and tells him to get his balls back. His character is a mess right now, he’s simply but a shadow of his former self.
I thought that with Thrall coming back into the fray with his new axe, I thought the writers were referencing cape crap where Thor abandons his hammer and forges himself a new axe. Since it seems the writers love to copy source material of other franchises instead of building upon their own, I thought Thrall was finally coming back.
But alas, like some kind of Metaphor,he throws away that hope like his axe at Helya and turns into a whimp the entirety of the introduction within the maw. He even becomes picky on what weapons to wield and somehow is incapable of shooting a crossbow, where the writers somehow want to reference Orcish love and fondness for axes, never mind that Thrall wielded a hammer the majority of his life.
Then we move onto Baine. I doubt a lot of people actually like this guy. He has been shown numerous times that he loves peace above all, so much that he isn’t bothered with his men getting slaughtered. His role within the Horde consists of bringing Anduin or Jaina into the storyline of the Horde. That’s literally it. He’s a terrible leader, and I wonder how his people weren’t exterminated under his rule. Because his own villages and camps getting burned, did not bother him. Until something happened to Jaina, then the young bull is quick to act.
His own troops getting blighted? He’ll just scold Sylvanas for it. Derek Proudmoore gets raised by Sylvanas? Oh now you’ve done it… now Baine will finally act.
The writers love to showcase him as Jaina and Anduin’s pet, I mean friend, that they forgot he’s also the leader of the Tauren.
Not only is Baine so inept at leading and actually keeping the Horde together, that he can’t even settle internal conflicts such as:
-a peon revolt in the Twilight Highlands
I know, it truly is a grim and dark world out there. Poor Baine was so distressed. But no worries. The Vulpera who have no knowledge of Horde or Orcish culture, were quick to help out and succeed. Baine was pleased so much, that he didn’t even call up the council. Nope, the vulpera were allowed to join the Horde.
lor’themar Theron, a guy who sat on the fence multiple times. Almost tried to switch factions until Jaina spoiled that. But then again, during the rescue scenario with Baine, his own men were killed for taking revenge against Jaina. He didn’t seem to mind Jaina killing his own people all of a sudden. Does that mean negotiations are back on table? Is he going to put the tail between his leg and run towards the Alliance, like Baine does, at any sign of internal conflict within the Horde?
Rokhan probably the only guy that makes sense out of this whole mess. Wouldn’t be surprised if Blizzard turns him into a villian and kills him off to further establish their Alliance council.
And this is just the “OG” characters.
We’ve got characters like:
Calia Menethil, who is shoehorned so hard because they made up Arthas having a sister out of nowhere up in Legion. Get this: a lightforged undead. This hag never once cared for “her people”. She ran off deserting the Kingdom. Now she suddenly feels a sense of inner duty towards “her people”. Yet she doesn’t have ANYthing that she shares with the Forsaken. She was only recently ressurected, not even in the same way. She didn’t went through the horrors of the Forsaken. She wasn’t there. But that doesn’t stop Blizzard from shoehorning her into a Horde leadership position and continuously shove her down our throats until the last batch of Horde players leave and Blizzard hopes she’ll catch onto the newer batch of people.
Valleera Sanguinar, I couldn’t believe my own damn eyes. Who is chilling atop of the Orgrimmar gate next to Theron and the Messiah herself? Anduin’s personal lapdog. You know I always thought that the Horde getting usurped and portrayed as an Alliance vassal was a joke, until none other than the Wrynn’s personal bodyguard was turned into a leadership position of the Horde.
Did you guys forget she doesn’t care about the Horde? She’s “loyal” to her people. After Anduin that is. All she does is gather intel and reports solely to him.
What the hell is this joke. THIS IS THE HORDE? SERIOUSLY? THESE WRITERS ARE A DAMN JOKE NONE ONLY ARE OUR LEADERS ESTABLISHED AS SIDEKICKS FOR THE PROTAGLNISTS: ANDUIN AND JAINA, WE’RE EVEN GETTING ALLIANCE CHARACTERS FORCED INTO OUR FACTION.
Holy crap, I can imagine why Alex Afrasiabi left the company in June. Not even he wanted to be part of this. I can’t believe Metzen is still voicing Thrall and he’s seeing this all unfold without almost getting a stroke.
Whoever is in charge of narrating this mess. You have continuously took a DUMP on all the source material the original devs built up from the ground. You’re tearing it all down, bit by bit, piece by piece with this crap.
This is just sad, seeing the legacy of Warcraft get used like this. There’s zero respect for the lore. Feels like I’m reading fanfiction at this point, and the fanfiction of these people just reeks of personal agenda, corporation decision making and a love towards their preferres characters and faction.
