Horde lore leveling path?

Hello there.

So one of my closest friends is finally joining the game, and he dosen’t want to use the boost, he wants to start from scratch, mainly for the lore.

His share of knowledge about the lore is only from the WoW movie and Nobbel87 video about the creation of the WoW universe.

We are leveling as orcs, we are at level 10 and i felt he is already kind of bored of killing animals and whatnot, i do really need a lore oriented leveling path.
Any other tips to keep him interested are welcome.

If he’s bored already, he’s not gonna level up to 120.

To answer your question:

  • Silverpine Forest, absolutely recommended for lore on the Undead plus a great zone to level in.
  • Stonetalon Mountains has some rich lore on Garrosh’ expansion lust. Same goes for Ashenvale, which also provides some Night Elf lore.
  • Azshara for Goblin stuff.

To be honest, leveling to 120 is mostly about killing boars and gathering herbs. It’s not going to get any better if he is bored already. The best you can do is read up on the lore yourself, and lead your friend to the zones while telling him about the context.

So for example, you go to Silverpine Forest, and you can tell him about the Scourge, and about Sylvanas. You’ll also cross Gilneas, and you can tell him something about the history of the kingdom, and the invasion of it by the Horde.

When you go to Stonetalon, you can tell him about how Garrosh wished to expand further into Kalimdor, how he believed that the Horde should’ve conquered Kalimdor, as his father probably wanted.

And make sure you do the Dungeon quests. When you got Dire Maul, you can tell him about the Highborne, or when you go to Uldaman, you can tell him about the Titans. And it can’t hurt to take a break from leveling sometimes.

If he is here for the lore, try to be his tour guide. Just giving some context about as much as you can might help a lot, and make the world feel more alive.

Feralas? Highborne, Green Dragons, Emerald Dream, etc.
Dustwallow Marsh? Theramore, its destruction, the invasion of the Barrens (building the Highway), the Black Dragons, Onyxia, Varian, etc.
Felwood? Something about the War of the Ancients, Skull of Gul’dan and Illidan, his confrontation with Arthas, etc.

Lore is everywhere. You just need to know where to look and what to tell.

So in terms of real leveling paths, I can’t help you a lot. Most questlines are basically sidetracks, leaning on the established lore but not giving a lot of new information, apart from a few exceptions. But if you know something about the lore yourself, you should be able to give him all the information he needs to know.

If you have any questions or want some specific info, let us know.

Most of the lore is in raids/out of game so you’ll need to fill in the blanks for them, but I’ll recommend what I can.

Silverpine for Forsaken lore (Very relevant to current events)

Stonetalon for Garrosh lore

The Ghostlands for Blood Elf lore (Although the quests are much older than any of the Cataclysm ones)

If your friend’s a rogue then do the Badlands for Wrathion lore (Otherwise don’t bother since Wrathion’s pandaria questline was deleted so non-rogues won’t know who he is~).

The blasted lands has some interesting Demon Hunter/Blood Mage stuff.

Nagrand in Outland for Orc lore

Dragonblight for the Wrathgate.

Icecrown for Arthas/Scourge lore

Mount Hyjal for some stuff on the Night Elves and the ancients

Vashj’ir for Naga and ancient Kaldorei lore (Relevant for 8.2 and one of the few zones to make a major villain feel like a threat).

Twilight Highlands for some Dragonmaw Clan and a smidge of Second War stuff

The Jade Forest has some interesting Alliance/Horde stuff.

For Draenor… anywhere goes really. But much of the lore isn’t relevant. Do Nagrand for the conclusion of Garrosh’s storyline.

Broken Isles you should probably start with Highmountain for the allied race questline. Highmountain and Suramar are the only relevant places left there.

For Zandalar do all the zones. They’ll need them for end-game content, flying and allied races.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the Southern Barrens, tons of Alliance vs Horde stuff there to get them ready for BfA.

I’m very thankful for the insight guys, really didn’t know where to actually go.
We are at 20 and we will move to Silvrpine Forest next, and will see how it goes from there.

But i do have a question, now we are at cataclysm context, but still will go through TBC and WoTLK content?

another idea i have is, to get him into the raids ( with my main ) after we finish the related content, like Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, Black temple, ICC for example, what do you think?

Yes, as you probably know the Cataclysm revamped the Vanilla zones, so they are updated and are in the future from a 60-80 perspective. You can choose to go through Outland or Northrend, or both. For example, you can decide to go to Hellfire Peninsula, Nagrand and Terokkar Forest and tell something about the wars in Draenor with the Draenei, and when you’re in Northrend, you can go to the Howling Fjord, tell about the Vrykul, Dragonblight to tell about the Dragon Aspects, etc.

You’ll need to learn a lot about the lore yourself as well, and by that I mean a lot. It’s going to take some internet research to gather all the information, if you want to be as detailed as you can.

That’s a great idea, since the Raids connect with the overarching storylines of all expansions, while the zones are often sidestories. Taking him through specific Raids will help a lot.

Yes and to be honest, although i play since WoTLK, i started to care about the lore recently and i lack a lot of info, and still many parts are deficient, and some are confusing a bit, especially anything before WoTLK.
