Oh agreed, but at times it got a little bit much - especially considering the time span between TBC and Cata. Throwback to that troll guild that dove outta a RP-PvP campaign completely because they utterly refused to roleplay with Blood Elves.
Really do miss how big and varied the RP scene was, mind.
And any druid of either faction being there for a brief stint isn’t beyond the scope of reality, but randoms of all races just pitching up just cause is deeply meh.
Cenarion or Alliance, both would have to work together there to keep it safe so ya know…
It does exist certainly but as others have mentioned is generally more accessible via connections rather than the very open love-it-or-hate-it smorgasbord that is Alliance Stormwind.
PvE wise you’d probably be pleasantly surprised - many roleplayers are actually decently geared and handle the 10-15 keystone range competently. Eminence (blows own horn) has various decent enough key groups ranging from low levels to high levels as well as a social raid while also having various people who actively roleplay (blows own horn).
The server in general also has the LORG presence of the PCU, which also masses enough guys to have their own discord (which presumably has PvE LFG in it and group forming potential outside of RP).
Unless you realise Warcraft has about 0 restrictions apparently for any races and anyone can just go wherever and whenever without seemingly much hassle.
X race not going to Y place is just a matter of opinion really. Personally I am fine with any race being able to go anywhere, as long as whatever races goes there can accept the possible consequences (example: hostility or getting instantly attacked). The problems come more in when some random Horde races go to Duskwood and claim “I AM SO NEUTRAL!!!” to cause trouble / start fights to then run into the Grove and proclaim “I AM NEUTRAAAAAAL YOU CAN’T TOUCH MEEEEE”, which unfortunately has happened before.
Or that weird special snowflake roleplaying a farraki in Duskwood. I can accept if it’s atleast reasonable like a shaman trying to cleanse the forest, a druid trying to protect the Grove or anything that atleast comes close to making sense. But that specific troll made about zero.
I would add, also, that even from Blizzard’s part, we never really saw the undeads or the blood elves mingle with the other races, and it culminated in MoP’s “me orc, you inferior!”
It’s neither rare or unheard of for random race mercs to appear any and everywhere, but a lot of the time it’s rather questionable and consequence less RP that is born from these things.
You said it, brother. I remember that one particular troll druid that somehow got a guard guild to protect her, and harass people who tried to get her to leave Darkshire.
i.e. “eeee i wanna be controversial BUT also i wanna be super safe if consequences happen :(((”
fools all. if my Forsaken gets caught in Darkshire, she’s gonna have to fight or flee. neutral RP rarely goes well when the player behind it is afraid of consequences and reactions to their presence!
people pass my goblin in Duskwood. They wonder why he’s there and ask about it.
My goblin:
“Ayoooooooooo, I am here to sell holiday (whatever holiday is ingame, he just shows up and sells stuff) goodies, food AND to share the spirit. You wanna buy some?”
I remember one Duskwood guard guild escorted some other more Horde allied race to the bridge to Stranglethorn and they let my goblin stay because he’s a neutral goblin, who’s never really done anything.
Which brings me to:
I understand that fully. Somehow people that tend to roleplay “neutral” think it’s walking into faction controlled places and be completely untouchable. Staying completely neutral despite wanting to tell your opinion or it being something that agitates you is very difficult and many people (IRL) don’t have the needed patience and objective look to it.
To anyone who wants to roleplay a neutral person in a faction zone:
being neutral means being neutral. Not siding with one group. Better yet: trying to negotiate between 2 groups that dislike eachother. You’re neutral. Not affiliated with anyone, so please, stop siding with any group, that’s not being neutral.
Another thing to keep in mind about neutral RP is to understand that there are neutral areas in the world. The goblin towns, for instance. You physically can walk into a faction’s home territory, but that doesn’t mean the reception there is going to be welcoming.
There’s a reason we don’t see many (or none at all, not sure) Horde-race neutrals in Stormwind, and vice-versa. Or that we didn’t, before the recent Scourge invasions - talking about the Ebon Blade.
If you’re a Horde-race neutral in Duskwood, I imagine there’d be a good reason for that. I do remember that there was a traveling Vulpera caravan stationed on an abandoned fark in Duskwood, for some time. All the interactions I had with them were generally positive, in that they understood this was Alliance land, and that people would be sceptical of their presence.
I wonder where Ratchet sits in all this, considering Gazlowe is now officially part of the Horde. It’s funny that goblins have canonically only been neutral for two expansions (BC, WOTLK) before being a majority Horde race since Cata. Booty Bay and Gadgetzan seem to be the exception rather than the norm.
There are or have been a few examples, but they always seem to relate to a world shattering event… With that said, Azeroth always has those.
It’s now you deal with any negative approaches that’s important. Remain diplomatic and respectful and things can be alright.
Also with Gazlowe going to said cartel, Ratchet may have changed hands or is just staying as is for money’s sake. A lot of trade and income would vanish if it went either way.
Supposedly, but we haven’t seen a neutral goblin NPC since Cataclysm, besides the existing ones in Steamwheedle hubs. Goblins have been considered a core Horde race for far longer than they were the standard neutral race like they were in Vanilla. I’m not saying there aren’t neutral goblins anymore, but Blizzard has definitely shifted the “goblin storyline” to be Horde-focused, with Gazlowe in particular blurring the lines.
