[Horde] The Roleplaying Workshop for Non-RPers! A real-time guide for those who want to try something new (Next one: April 14)

Hello there, my dear Sha’glade Cartel denizens who don’t roleplay!

Are you interested in trying something new? Are you bored by content draughts? Do you need a break from the gear treadmill? Are you a fan of D&D and/or other pen-and-paper roleplaying games? Do you have no idea what roleplaying is, but think the word sounds fun? Would you like to RP but feel too shy or clueless to dive right in? Do you feel burnt out from the default content the game has to offer? Do you love immersion? Do you like to use your imagination? Or maybe you just want to know if real roleplayers really are anything like the stereotype?

If you answered “yes” or “maybe” to any of those questions, then keep reading!

Despite Sha’glade Cartel being an RP realm cluster, the grand majority of the players here seems to be rather uninvolved in RP–which is a huge shame, because RP can be a fantastic hobby! For this reason I decided to run an open event directed at all those folks who roam Sha’glade Cartel and wish to check out what this whole server theme is about! (And, maybe, hopefully, find something really cool to do in their spare time.)

WHEN: April 14 (Tuesday) @ 20:00 server time
WHERE: The bonfire near class trainers in the lower part of the Valley of Wisdom (Tauren district) in Orgrimmar, with War Mode off

The goal of the event is to give you the very basic knowledge and tools that will allow you to successfully start your roleplaying adventure. The event will be ran by experienced hosts who are always happy to answer questions.

For simplicity’s sake, the workshop will be split into several parts:

1. What the heck is RP and how do you do it in WoW?
This will be a very short and basic introduction to what roleplaying is, how it works, why we love to do it, and how it can be fun for you! This section also includes a quick look at the essentials, that is RP addons.

2. OOC, TRP, and other weird acronyms.
Before you can debate, first you need to speak the language. Just like PvEers have their DBMs and WAs and other such things, RPers have their own special set of little letter clusters which mean Important Things. The most popular ones will be explained in this section.

3. Crafting a character.
Finally, the really fun stuff! You will be walked through the process of creating a simple and concise character that will ensure a smooth and comfortable start, should you decide to give RP a try. We will share tried and tested tips and tricks, talk about the different methods of tackling the hulking beast that is character building, as well as talk about online resources that can come in handy.

4. Talking the talk and walking the walk.
You have your character–now what? Well, now we start to walk funny! This section will explain how to use /say and /emote to communicate with other players and properly participate in RP. We will also talk about the basics of roleplaying etiquette.

5. The importance of immersion.
Last but not least, we will try to sound smart by using words such as “immersion,” “philosophy,” or “consequences.” We will talk about the roleplaying mindset, your character’s place in the world and how it affects them, the importance of solid foundations, and share tips on how to make your character feel like a person, and not just a virtual avatar.

I would love to offer the PvE/PvP side of the realm an opportunity to learn more about RP and hopefully pick it up as a new hobby (or just something to do between raid days?).

Anyway, if after the event you decide you are interested in RP, you’re welcome to join this year’s Love is in the Air Festival, which (spoiler alert?) is happening on February 8 in Thunder Bluff. But shh! We’re still trying to get Skabb to stop honking stealing cocktail glass and throwing it in a ditch somewhere. Event thread will appear within the next two weeks, to give everyone a fair chance at inventing the sappiest poems for the anonymous love letter delivery service…
