I am only doing Horrific Visions to get the +3 each week, and I do not want/need to use masks, so I breeze through them.
However as I was doing my 1000th vision today, I could not help but noticing how Visions are centred around loss of control of your character in one way or another. I did a search and compiled a non-exhaustive list of loss-of-control abilities that are present in Visions - and maybe there are more I now forget!
leaden foot immobilise
scorched feet forced leap
split personality disorients 6 secs
entomophobia forced run 5 secs
dark delusions 4 sec stun
haunting shadows fear
seismic slam 2 sec stun
hopelessness 10 sec silence
defiled ground 3 sec stun
touch of the abyss 5 sec stun
Dark force pushes away
Void torrent 4 sec stun and push away
Surging Fist knock back
Decimator knock back
Aqiri Mind Toxin 5 sec stun
Ring of Chaos 3 sec stun
Unleash corruption knockback
Howling in Pain spell interrupt
Tainted Polymorph 4 sec sheep
Chains of Servitude silence, pullback, 5 sec stun if hit
Entropic leap knockback
Void-tainted blades slow
Convert like mind control
Lurking appendage silence
Crawling Corruption slow
Frozen Storm slow
Yeah, the idea is to play around them. Most are definitely avoidable. Some, like sheep on classes without an interrupt are not.
The annoyances come when you get multiple together what get you in situations you can not help it but being a sitting duck in sanity drain circles for a while.
In the Shadowlands interview, Ion was asked about aoe capping and he talked about this exact design. Without aoe cap, there is only one possible strategy - gather everything and aoe it down. To break things up, they are forced into doing this design. All of these choices in visions were made to stop people from using only one strategy. He kinda used visions as an example why AOE caps are necessary to design interesting gameplay.
Some of these you can play around, but many are actual garbage, like the forced jump one. This is the main one I absolutely hate.
Thanks for the explanation, however loss of control is not the only way to make Visions more interesting/challenging. Mobs could make to hit harder (they are very easy on a 450+ character), they could drain sanity more just by being hit (so that would stop mass AoE tactics). Then they have the masks which already make mobs tougher, drain more sanity etc.
I feel the loss of control mechanics was a cheap way to get out of a predominately flawed design. We get corruption gear from all possible activities that caters for all WoW players: raids, M+, WQs, PvP etc. We need a strong cloak to use the corruption gear, but we can only upgrade the cloak through one, single avenue: horrific Visions. Terrible design.

Get these WA’s, the 2nd one will show you a shload of icons, only once or two will show at the same time. Set your positioning on the first from the left.
The first one will show you the internal CD of the TITANS proc, you can leave something and kill it when you engage a boss to fast nuke it down.
I’m personally happy to see them go with an AoE cap rather than the annoying loss of control stuff in visions. To be honest I think the game is too AoE heavy right now.
Making them hit harder on solo would just make parties the dominant strategy, and you can just CC and AOE them down. Same thing with sanity drain per hit - aoe cc would just become dominant. Imo, having your abilities just not do damage to more than x amount of targets is a good way of solving this issue.
I think in Orgrimmar especially there’s some mobs that use their skills very efficiently to stop you from aoe farming… but it is annoying - they CC you for like 5 seconds and you get mowed down. Right now, ccing the player is the only way to stop these massive pulls. This is why I agree with the aoe caps.
it is not hard, but so annoying that you don’t want to do them.
Pretty much nobody is doing +5 for fun. Either for guaranteed corruption which only has 3 slots anyways OR memento stacking for sockets.
Second one is only for hardcore players that need those extras anyways.
First one is not worth the effort because 99.9% you get garbage anyways. Did SW and OG once with 5 masks each and then never again because it is so freaking daunting
Yes but in visions who the hell cares really. I mean yeah there are some powerfull rewards like high ilvl corruptions and sockets, but its the end of the expansion and by the time we got to rank 15 WF was over. IMO this is the perfect time to let us go crazy with gear and power.
