I’ve mained a VDH for the past couple of months and while I like the class, I absolutely hate how simplistic it is. I’ve been looking for something more engaging and I honestly think that Monk class might just be it because it’s a hybrid class with a very nice mobility. How are monks currently looking in beta and how do upcoming class changes for SL look to you who are experienced players? I don’t really intend to do hardcore stuff, even with my VDH I never went above M+10. I want to be able to do similar stuff with a monk - to have a decent damage, good survivability and to have an engaging rotation and hopefully not depend as much on borrowed power system as DH usually does.
First: too early to answer this right now, because tuning is yet to happen, and we are in still in state of pre-borrowed power; with conduits and leges, Brew might feel and perform differently.
But, I can address some of your questions
I have also played VDH extensively, and I agree with you that its gameplay is too simplistic. If you want more depth, then going Brew is a right step.
Overall: strong. As always. However, Brew is getting some new buttons, actually a lot of buttons. We are going from around 7 buttons in our core rotation, to like 10+ : which gives you more things to be good at, BUT a lot of mechanics that we usually have to manage are getting baked into rotation. You might as well not be aware of this thing called Shuffle that is making a come back, because it happens by you simply doing your rotation.
Brew already had a good mobility kit, but we are getting ANOTHER mobility and if you go Nightfae covenant you have yet another mobility. If you like zooming around the room, Brew is the best for that.
We don’t really have that. Baseline Brew will be lower on damage compared to other tanks. But, with some conduits and specific leges, we should be able to help out DPSers.
If you thought VDH has good survive-ability (they don’t, it’s moderate + they have good heals), then you will find a Brew tank almost unkillable. Our mitigation is 85-90% of incoming physical damage (half that for magical damage) that is up almost 100% of the time. Plus, we can simply clear this damage (stagger).
Although magic damage is a bit of a problem for us, but I remember seeing (i think) a conduit, that will make our niche defensive ability (Zen Mediation) see more use.
We got you covered there, brew. If you play it right, you can stack your mitigation (with right talents) up to 30+ seconds which, to me personally, is kinda of a mini game: how how can I get it? And we have interactions between our abilities.
We don’t rely on it to complete the class. It only makes a Brew better.
All that said, Brew has one distinctive problem: we don’t bring anything unique to the group. Yes, Ring of Peace is damn powerful, and Mystic Touch (debuff on enemy: 5% increase physical damage) is useful, but WW and MW also bring that. But we really make up for this problem by just being amazing tanks.
I have just tried them on Class Trial and though I love the way they feel, I just can’t play them after seeing how much their mobility is gimped mid jump. Considering how used I am to jumping, seeing how I main a night elf and love doing frontflips, I’d just unnecessarily keep using Chi Torpedo/Roll/Flying Serpent Kick mid air and move nowhere. This is an absolutely awful design and whoever made it the way it is should be fired. It’s such a darn shame.
Barely functional, so many bugs, mw has at least 60 gameplaybreaking bugs.
Monk tanks is looking like they have looked the last 8 years insanly OP with a 100% uptime on their shield wall. With that said Monks actually gets tools that makes them even better than they are currently in m+ etc so they are looking really good.
Easy fix. It will start with mindset. As martial artist as monks are same rule applies in real life, power comes from you feet so you need connection to the ground at all times and make a floor your friend. No connection with floor means huge disadvantage against your oponent. Make you floor your friend then you will have only one to fight against.
Bugged. lots and lots of bugs.
Bugs and scaling concerns from what I’ve gathered but other all I think WW is looking good for SL all things considered.
They have satisfying Covenant and Conduits, fun looking Torghast anima powers and the legendary items look pretty cool too. Then you have say Mage where Arcane is a solid foundation but the SL stuff just doesn’t excite me. At least the new WW stuff excites me.
Apparently expecting further changes this week too.
