How best to prepare for TBC?

I’m unsure how best to prepare for TBC and should do with some pointers.

I have a lvl 60 and several alts on Classic, all of which are between lvl 15 and 25. My lvl 60 has max alch/herb while the others all have a mix of gathering profs, all of which are below 150.

I’m unlikely to be able to level more than one of my alts to 60 before TBC together with maxing their profs so I’m unsure how best to use my time to prepare. Is there anything I could do with my main to be best placed ?

I started playing midway through TBC first time round, focused on leveling and dinged 70 just after WOTLK dropped, so I’ve not really experienced most of the TBC content before, so want to make the most of it.

I came back recently after a long break since P1. I was wondering the same thing and decided farming gold and stocking up on materials for Jewelcrafting is the way to go.
I was Alch/Herb like you and ditched Alchemy for Mining as the profit margins for Alchemy stuff are really slim and not worth it, unless you have flask recipes of course. Plus I had to farm materials for Jewelcrafting.
I leveled up my mining to 300 and made Burning Steppes my home for the foreseeable future. I was farming Black Lotus, Mountain Silversage and Dreamfoil to sell on the AH and Rich Thorium Veins to stock up on ores for prospecting and the occasional gems that drop from them. Started with 20g and in a month I got to 3.5k with 800 thorium ores for prospecting. All that is valid for me because I plan to start a Blood Elf that’d be my main.
I am afraid as of now - 7 days before pre-patch - there is nothing substantional that you can do apart from just leveling professions and leveling in general.

Follow da smoke, bruddah.

Aside from getting your desired professions to 300 there’s little you can do I’m afraid. You can ty to farm some gold or get some t3/naxx gear in prep for lvl 70 but you won’t get more than a couple items at best.

Is naxx gear still good at 70? I was under the impression I’d be throwing away all my raid loot for quest reward greens as early as Hellfire Peninsular.

It’s in most cases even better than all questing gear you get from 60-70, mostly even better than dungeon gear from normal lvl 70 dungeons. In my case (priest healer) it’s pre raid best in slot so in theory I can take my Naxx gear into Karazhan and be more than fine. That’s how good Naxx gear is

Edit: to clarify even Molten Core raid gear will be replaced only in Terrokar and onwards.
In general:

  • MC gear: replaced during early questing but not in Hellfire or even Zanga.
  • BWL gear: replaced during last part of questing, some pieces are even on par with 70 dungeon blues
  • AQ40 gear: replaced by normal lvl 70 dungeons, some pieces are on par with pre raid bis.
  • Naxx: replaced by Kara/Gruul gear, or by the epic crafting lvl 70 gear. Very class specific.

Max the professions you want for TBC, stock up on mats to level them past 300 without having to use outland mats, farm gold, get raid items that are still useful in TBC like tear, thunderfury, rejuvenating gem, ring of the fallen god, mark of the champion, etc.
