I use a combination of mouse and keys to move around. I also like an over the shoulder PoV. Regardless of what setting I have on the camera, when I use the arrow keys it pitches the camera back to behind me. This was working fine pre-patch and works as expected in WoW Classic but it’s driving me crazy now, to the point that I can only play for so long before I need to give up and logout. (Maybe that’s Blizzard’s way of curing my WoW addiction :D)
I’ve tried with/without addons, even tried ActionCam Plus which I found somewhere on reddit, but nothing seems to disable this behaviour. Surely out of millions of players I can’t be the only one experiencing this? Has this affected you and, more importantly, have you found a fix/workaround?
Thanks.
EDIT: Finally found out what the issue was. There was a setting in
called CameraFollowOnStick (or something similar), that was set to “1” - Once I removed that line, everything is back to normal. This setting DID persist removing the WTF/Interface/Cache folders! It was only when looking for something else that I noticed this and checked the similar file in the beta folder which didn’t have it.
I believe this was probably added when I plugged in a PS4 controller to see what playing WoW with one would be like, but I did not see any UI option to match this change, and, more crucially, none to remove it. I ended up not playing with a controller because it was quite nauseating to do with this setting, may be trying again now that I found out about this hidden variable. Even a full cvar reset left this setting there.
If only it was that simple… Like I’ve said, I’ve tried EVERY setting. But if I have my camera not exactly 100% behind my character, which by using the mouse to move around it happens all the time, whenever I start moving with the keyboard, it will adjust the pitch on it’s own…
Try DynamicCam and make sure to setup each situation to the way you want it, so it will stay at whatever setting it is you have for each situation. Its a very advanced camera addon, It might work, I use to remove my motionsickness, as game is unplayable without it for me. If you haven’t already tried it that is, only thing i can think of.
Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried this now but it doesn’t seem to do what I need it to. I’ll upload a short video to try and demonstrate what the problem is. I’ve tried with no addons and resetting settings and whatever combinations of camera/pitch settings I can find but whenever I use the arrow keys to move my character, with each press it lowers the camera a bit until it is behind my character and no longer looking from above as I have set it. This worked fine pre-patch and still works fine in WoW Classic - it’s just this botched patch that has changed this.
Here’s a short clip: https ://jumpshare. com/v/FapZVJNb0wAv9SOL9lW4 (remove the spaces)
Everytime I press UP (forward) arrow it moves a bit but also the camera lowers a bit.
Not clicking links, But if its just this patch that broke it, then just wait for things to get fixed, I myself havent even bothered logging in yet, seems to be too much issues. If anything, maybe arrowkeys are bound to something other than movement, if so remove those binds, Are you able to test if wasd or whatever such layout you got on keyboard causes the same issue? If it does then yeah, i’d say just wait or cope with how it is right now until broken things get fixed.
That’s a good shout! I mean, there’s no visible way to see what “else” arrow keys are mapped to other than movement, but I guess I could force change the movement keys to something else (I tend to use the whole of rows 1/Q/A for spells as there’s so many of them usually), but that is something to try for sure. I’m away on holiday at the moment and haven’t bothered trying to login for now as it is just not worth it with the amount of bugs going on…
Edit: Just tried remapping Move Forward and Move Backward and same thing happens - this has to do with some weird undocumented camera changes, probably related to the bloody sky riding changes as well… Oh well, I’ll check back in a week or so, after a few more patches.
Edit (2024/08/09): Still not fixed as of today’s live maintenance. Annoyingly this is working fine in the Beta, so they HAVE fixed it at some stage but it just makes it painful to play at the moment…
