Hey guys I want to make a fan game so I need the World of Warcraft files, but I don’t know how to extract them manually, I don’t want to use WOW Model Viewer etc. because I thought it would be good to learn how to extract them myself. Please help me.
Hungry? Here have a bite. I dont know how else to help you.
lol thanks but i still need help…
Pretty sure it’s not allowed
You can not do it , it is illegal to do so read the ToS/Eula.
Oh sorry I didn’t know that, I wasn’t going to put it up online, only for personal use anyway if that changes anything?
Nope its unfortinately forbidden
Awwww… Thats unfortunate
It’s Blizzard’s intellectual property you can’t use it without their permission, which you are unlikely to gain.
oh okie, how would i ask them for permission btw, I tried contacting them but they never respond.
That is a complex matter of things. You would have the best chances to request via old-fashioned Mail to their HQ, which is:
Blizzard Entertainment Mailing Address: P.O. Box 18979 Irvine, CA 92623
oh cool thanks, i’ll be sure to do that. But is there an easier way that I can do online like via email or something…
I don’t know.
kk I’ll look it up, thanks btw guys!!
You are not allowed to reverse engineer the game nor use the game files for a third party thing, that’s a clear violation of tos.
I doubt Ion will personally come to your house and force you to play torghast permanently if you decide to do it though.
It was for personal use Constable…
It’s a waste of your time they aren’t going to say yes.
WOW Head, MMO Champion, machinima
They are not making a game though are they…
You can use the wow files if it’s for fan stuff and not for personal gain, otherwise all machinimas would be illegal.
You can use wow model viewer and it has an option to export the file you select as .obj or .fbx which you can open with a 3d program. You can also use wowtools to export files or entire maps, or cascview to export textures or sounds.
Why dont you just ask Blizzard kindly instead?
Be careful about asking. If they say yes, they might put a condition on it that you fix the game and make it fun again. A lifetime’s work.
