Almost nobody runs dungeons, and the few and far between groups I had to form were painful to assemble. Whispering random strange people in /who is tiring, time-consuming and frankly off-putting.
Aside from long chain quests which are rare, at the end of which there’s a blue item, how does a dirt poor player who has just begun playing actually obtain good blue gear so as to facilitate questing and also to put up a good fight if ganked ?
Professions too aren’t of much help either. Blue recipes are as rare as blue world drop BoEs, not to mention a poor player who has just created his 1st char doesn’t have the gold for mats.
Cross-realm RDF implementation for vanilla dungeons couldn’t come sooner…
While leveling in the vanilla zones you really dont need to have anything better than what the quests provide, having blues is just a bonus but really not needed at all.
There are a few really good crafted pieces of gear aswell, but they tend to cost a fair bit to craft, for example there is a really good chest piece from BS for warriors that can be worn from level 24 that will last you for atleast 20 levels unless you get something really good from a dungeon, but most of the time you wouldnt get anything better anyways.
Why do you need to gear up while leveling? Leveling doesn’t require any gear, just use the greens you get from the quests it will barely make a difference.
Gear doesn’t really matter for leveling, Just a bit slower than someone with heirloom gear. TBC and Wrath zones will be giving you “good” items every level.
End game at level 80 is a different story, If you don’t have 10-15k gold to throw at the Auction House or friends willing to carry you through Heroic++ I wish you good luck!
