How do professions work in Chromie time?

Hi, I want to level a new char in Chromie Time and want to make an exp stop at level 49. All my professions were created before I visited Chromie to send me to TBC. In Shattrat I went to the tailoring and enchanting trainers and learned TBC professions.
But when I open my profession window the skill bar still shows 0/75 Cataclysm. And I cannot craft anything from the materials in TBC. The trainers don’t sell any tailoring patterns or TBC enchanting receipts. So I am a little bit confused why I don’t get the receipts from Chromie Time expansion. Maybe someone can help me.

I am now trying to replicate your actions and will edit this post when I am done and have a conclusion.

Okay, I did the following as described:

  • Logged a parked level 10 bank alt (Kul Tiran, practically haven’t done any content but being parked at nearest bank.)
  • Learned Vanilla and Cataclysm Enchanting and Tailoring from trainers in Stormwind
  • Entered Chromie Time - TBC and went through the Dark Portal, bought a flight to Shattrath.
  • Went to Scryer’s Tier and learned Outland Enchanting and Tailoring from the bookcases.

Now, let’s see where you issue is…

That is because the profession window skill bar is very misleading if not completely irrelevant when you don’t skill-cap the expansion professions in chronological order. It is always the newest learned expansion profession that will appear.

You learned (vanilla) Tailoring/Enchanting, which is fine. if this were your only learned professions, it would show up in said profession window skill bar.

Then you learned Cataclysm Tailoring/Engineering from the same trainers, which practically is a trap in this context. Since Cataclysm content is newer than vanilla, it appears on the profession window skill bar, regardless of it’s skill progression.

And at last you went to Outland and learned Outland Enchanting/Tailoring. Because TBC content is newer than vanilla but yet older than Cataclysm, it wont appear in the profession window skill bar - which indeed is a huge inconvenience.

Are you sure you have the crafting window for the respective profession?
When you open the “Professions”-tab in your spellbook, you will see that Tailoring have a button on right side of the skill bar named “Tailoring”. This can be clicked to open the crafting window as well as dragged to the toolbar. The same goes for Enchanting, and here you also get a “Disenchant”-button to be used for disenchanting gear.

I have no issues crafting TBC stuff of what my skill level allows me to craft.

That is strange, all trainers and suppliers have recipes and reagents available for me, the first only limited by skill points. This applies for Aldor Rise, Scryer’s Tier, as well as Lower City profession NPCs.

I can’t see why you should have any issues. Do you an active subscription? Free play might have some restriction in relation to professions.

Thanks that you took the time to test this with one of your alts. Now it is more clear for me why the skill bar shows cataclysm and not tbc even I am in Chromie time TBC.

The first tailoring pattern you get in TBC were only some relect of the past but nothing that can be used for disentchanting the crafted items. I collected now some more cloth, created cloth stacks (I don’t know the english name of it) and after everything went green and I hit skill level 10 now the trainer sold me my first tailoring pattern. Maybe I forgot how it was in old TBC or they changed it. But you will not get any patterns beside the relicts till you reach level 10.
