Then you’re almost there!
i have ti disagree.
raid finder IS endgame content. ANY content built around max level is endgame, regardless of diffuculty.
and anyway everyone wants to be powerful and get good gear to kill stuff. the question is, are they willing to dedicate themselves for the strongest gear ? i believe that is the core of what casual is.
Isn’t the actual question if you want to waste your time chasing after a temporary equipment boost which gets thrown away with the next patch?
I define casual as someone Who doesn’t put much time into farming all the New content to always be at top, but rather someone Who Just logs in whenever their schedual allows them to, and Just do the content they enjoy.
I define myself as a casual. I have a too hectic schedual irl to plan any play time during the week, so i Just login when it fits me, try to do my check list for each season (all Keys at 15+, curve Just to see the raid and 2.4 in one pvp bracket for the tabard.) otherwise i Just do whatever my friends wants to
Smooth sea never made a skilled sailor, but I’m quite comfortable with my casual playing. I do binge from time to time and put in effort, but basically I just play the game the way that I want to play. I play videogames to relax.
I’d define myself as one, yes. Legion had me borderline-hardcore at one point, but BfA has made sure that I can’t even be bothered these days.
To me, casual is someone who plays irregularly, doesn’t invest large amounts of time in the game. It has nothing to do with the difficulty of content they do. I don’t view someone playing 12 hours / day doing only world quests as a casual player, whereas the polar opposite of that, someone playing at 2500 arena rating but only has 5 hours per week is one.
A player who don’t really focus on doing any HC or Mythi raids, doesn’t focus on doing a lot of m+ or pushing keys.
Being a casual to me (which is what I usually am) is just doing some dailies, maybe run a few m+ to gear up a bit.
So I play anywhere from 1-4 hours a day. Doing these things until I get bored and I go to do something else.
I think for me personally it is difficult finding a guild with the same mindset, like a guild that just does normal and HC raiding casually, not hardcore. A guild that is willing to spend extra time to do content because not everyone is as good at tactics the first weeks of a raid.
I see myself as casual on every aspect, except that my Wednesdays do start in wow with standing front of Nzoth and me telling bad coffee jokes. I do not think doing mythic raids would auto make someone hardcore. There are non-raiders in my guild that have achieved more - be it the sockets in their gear, achievents, mounts, neck levels. Just I happen to at times attend raids.,
I think casual or hardcore is a matter of mindset.
Are you willing to grind hundreds of islands first week of the patch just to be optimal, then you’re hardcore.
Are you not even doing 5 mask visions, which is easy content, because you don’t really care about sockets? Then you’re a casual.
Did you farm 3 islands and 1x 5 mask a week to stay relevant, but not optimal? You’re semi-hardcore.
I think a casual player is someone who enjoys the game and partakes in some kind of content, but doesn’t really care too much about playing an optimized character. The big difference between a noob and a casual to me, is that a casual usually knows to some extent how to optimize their character, but doesn’t think it is worth it, where a noob is more completely oblivious.
I don’t necessarily think content you play is the biggest indicator of casual or hardcore. For example in BoD i considered myself casual. I played some keys from time to time and raided mythic when i felt like it with the guild i was in, but my character was not optimized and my whole approach to the game was very much carefree and more i play when i want and i don’t do things to optimize my character if i don’t think it’s worth the time.
I would class myself as casual despite having played a LOT during lockdown. The reason being is that I am not geared up to BIS for just about anything and I rarely grind anything unless I really want the end result e.g. flying or a mount/transmog.
I enjoy wow mostly for the story, people forget there’s an RPG after the MMO bit and are heavily critical of solo players but I quite often find PUGs a letdown either because of trolling, toxicity or wait time. I also can’t commit to a hardcore raiding guild. Yes sometimes I envy players with max level gear who seem like demigods compared to me but I am happy with playing as I do for the most part.
I feel casual is a term often misconstrued as unskilled, I don’t think I am that either, I’m not amazing but I take time to learn my class and spec and traits etc. I don’t use damage metres because that shifts my focus on performance and makes the game unenjoyable for me. It may be perfect for others to aim for top DPS but it’s simply not me and that’s okay for both parties.
It’s almost SL and I haven’t killed N’Zoth mainly because I can’t be bothered learning the tactics and then finding a group or doing LFR which will likely be a horrendous experience. I did come back from a year out probably too late to actually want to do it through. I’ll do it eventually but maybe wait when I can solo it.
All this rant (sorry) is to me what makes me casual. To others maybe less than casual. To some maybe a no lifer!
