generally i would say its more the state of mind then the actualy gametime, or whatever, because the difference in my mind at least between a casual player and a more “hardcore” player if thats the correct term is just a matter of care,
if you are trying harder to get your character to a strong position, if you want to try and optimise, that kinda thing, compared to those who just play for fun and dont bother with that kind of thing so much.
Pretty much this. I define myself as extremely casual, I don’t raid or pvp, only do a few m+ a week . I dont even bother with visions anymore
Wonder how many people will get that reference…

How do I define casuals?
I don’t, I think that’s more something need to define for themselves, based on if they have set goals and how serious they are. Maybe you’re hardcore about collecting every transmog or something, looking up all these guides and planning stuff out. Or you just log in and do what you feel like at the moment.
I think the definition is: pointless
Like seriously, we all play this game at the end of the day why do we need to divide us up meaninglessly?

Have to feel more important than other people for playing a video game a certain way. Games are serious business and determine your worth as a person.
i dont think timeplayed has anything to do with being a casual. its just how much free time you got.
casual is a playstyle, do the basics and normal content. dont push high keys or dont do any organized raids.
if the best key you can do is 10 and you dont do organized raids, you are casual.
*i consider pugging raids also casual gameplay. but some would disagree.
Anyone with less then 33k achievement points.

I don’t see ‘casual’ as a descriptor for gamers but more a classification for games them selves. A casual game to me is something you can go play for a few minutes to fill in a bit of time, like MS Solitaire, as opposed to WoW which needs a considerable time investment to really get the most out of it.
Casual is not about how much you play, but how you play. How seriously you take the game, how much you push yourself to be the absolute best. If you don’t do that, then you’re casual. I am definitely casual, because I just can’t care about WoW. I like the game, but it’s too broken on so many levels that taking it seriously would be a waste of time. From the looks of it, Shadowlands might change that for me. You can play 24/7 and still be casual
Someone that’s not interested in pushing himself into challenging content. However we first need to set up what’s challenging content.
For someone a 15 can be difficult or impossible to reach, for others it’s a walk in the park.
In the end it’s difficult to define what casual is;
This appears to be an accurate definition for most players in my opinion.

Tbf pretty much this, i puged like 3.2 rio, did some pvp, did some mythic nya, yet i still consider myself casual.
Difference between casual and hardcore is how much effort u are willing to put and how much other things u are willing to sacrifice in favor of wow.
Reminds me of a raider io tweet

Someone that isnt dedicating a schedule or similar things to achieve a set goal while pouring more effort/time into it than the average player would
I consider myself casual i would say, i’m married, have a job and other things to do in life. I usually do m+ up to +15 and heroic raids every tier and thats enough for me. When i have some off time i like to farm things. Honestly, when someone who plays 12h a day insults a “casual” i find them far more embarrassing. Like, all you do in life is play that game all day and on top of that you’re a garbage person to others. Like, do something meaningful with your life.

You can not define it as the word has hundreds of meanings just in wow alone.
This is, for the most part, the definition of a casual player. I’m one myself - but then again, am I actually one with having +40 characters or doing content which also takes a lot of time others don’t do?
My personal definition of a casual is when you do all the content once within a month and come back four months later for the newest patch.
