I’ve been trying to like Shaman over the years, mostly Ele, dabbling in Resto. Enh has always seemed like the coolest spec as a concept, but it has a weird feel to it in practice.
My main issue is that the button bloat feels too much, and totems are a pain to place down in combat, especially in PvP trying to kite/survive.
The totems also feel quite weak and underwhelming in effectiveness, despite taking up a GCD (which feels super annoying for flow) and require accurate placement. It’s a lot of work for a totem that can be killed in one hit or so.
I have abilities like Primal Strike, even as Ele for some reason and like so many other buffs/shields to activate or make sure haven’t fallen off. It just seems like so much more to keep track off, it’s annoying.
You need to activate Ghost Wolf form to move around quickly, another GCD, and then use abilities to cast while moving and then hit other GCD’s while tapping glowing buttons quickly before they fall off.
All in all, I’m really trying to get into flow of the class, taking advantage of it’s utility and other abilities, but it just feels like a lot of work for minimum payoff. My gut says to just follow a really basic rotation and ignore half of the kit, if not more, just for the sake of simplicity, but that sacrifices a lot of the fantasy, like you’re not even playing a Shaman almost.
How are you guys making this fun/enjoying the class? I’ve played every class in the game, Shaman and DK never flowed well for me. I finally got DK nailed down, but it’s not as fun as I hoped, it just does big damage at times. Shaman feels likes less is more, but I feel like I’m missing something here, that can’t just be the class, is it?
