I just don’t think I’m cut out to tank, when people are letting me pull and listening I genuinely think it’s a fun experience.
I just got into TBC with my Paladin tank and was queued for the Blood Furnace. I still have blues from the previous expansion so mobs were hitting me incredibly hard due to my gear.
After a 2-3 pack pull I notice the healer was at 10% mana. So I say to the group, “wait for healer mana”. Hunter pulls a single mob, which is no big deal I pull it off her and we tank and spank it no problem. The healer was then at 3% mana. I notice I said it in /say chat so I switch over to instance chat and repeat the line. Hunter decides to run ahead and continue pulling more.
I decide to just drop the party and log out at an inn. I’m getting to stressed with deal with people like this today. Usually, I wouldn’t get so bent out of shape, I’d just blacklist the person and finish the dungeon. I just needed someplace to vent, I’m off to play Palworld or something. I definitely need a break from tanking in leveling dungeons.
If the dps pulls, you just let the dps die until they get a clue. Stay back with the healer and let the healer drink, they should have enough mana to deal with it when you eventually get aggro. If its a hunter and they MD to save themself, just kick them.
As a tank myself i had to teach a couple of my guildies that either i pull or they just die. If someone decides to be smart and pull an add they can tank it.
as tank you job to do job fest simple always check healer cen handel if only small pull small groups cen handel large group pull large depents how well geart healer is
I make a quick assessment for a second or two, if I predict I will survive the pack without heals, I pick it all up and play defensively, possibly pressing a cooldown and a healing potion. If I predict I will not be able to handle the pack without heals, I let the player (hunter in this case) handle it himself.
Some healers also quit drinking and run in to heal (I know I do sometimes, you don’t need 100% mana every pull). Then you can just clear the pack and tell the hunter again that he shouldn’t do that.
The problem is you were undergeared for the content. I recently did outland on a DK tank in hairlooms, and I would just tank a group or 2 with self healing while the healer drank. It only really became unfeasible around spider dungeons in wotlk, where I needed a defensive cooldown per group to tank without heals.
People are angry cos Tanks in Classic and TBC content (especialy Warrior and at TBC level Paladins ) can keep pulling and AoE down 2-3 pack almost by them self
It is super frustrating when by got Tank who dont know what to do or styl live in 2004 classic mentality
for the edited by moderator hunter/rogue I have the following macro tied to a useful ability: /cancelaura Tricks Of The Trade; /cancelaura Misdirection. which I switch to in case of them trying to “help” me speed up the dungeon.
it’s amazing how well behaved most dps are after 2-3 repair bills
Funny you say this I downloaded wrath client to give it a go granted I’m very late to it and went in rfc to tank as a war (got no looms as new to wotlk) and a rogue ran in full loomed aggroed room I managed to keep the threat and I died, healer didn’t bother to ress and just carried on. As I ran back I got kicked… Uninstalled it and didn’t bother servers were dying anyway just thought I’d give it a try but nah I’m good
If you’re going to tank you will have to take charge.
People will push your limits both in terms of threat and pulling mobs, if you are a dps that pulls mobs bring them to the tank. and of course if someone pulls when healer needs a break let them die.
I hope OP takes another shot at it, it can feel very rewarding.
You can always try to befriend healers/dps you enjoy playing with, they will enjoy the short queue times.
It’s funny how much some DPS wants to push their tanks, especially when you consider the fact that a tank gets their dungeon queue instantly, while DPS sometimes have to wait up to 20-30 minutes. You would think that more people would be interested in a smooth run.
DKs gets blue set of gear that lasts them till lvl 65 without changing and only at 67 the last piece of it is replaced. Even without heirlooms they shouldn’t have issues while running lvl 64 instances.
Kick the puller or leave the group. There’s nothing more.
We kicked now a huntard doing what tank have to, and I’m so happy ^^ . I was just needing to whisp him my laugh in cap letters.
T*rds who pulls when they are not tank deserve to be punished so hard.
EDIT
I have to say more: its important, imperative, to kick these players in order to educate them.
Mostly of them are DDs, and they have to learn what they have to: avoid aoe, do mechanichs, do uberhighdps (dps is the most important thing in this game), and don’t pull. That’s all.
