How Do You Know A Class Is Your Main?

I switch sometimes but it’s usually along the lines of deciding like this:

  • Is the class fun?

  • Transmogs good?

  • Do I play it too much?

  • Easy to play?

So I narrowed the list down to Druid, Mage, and Hunter and chose Hunter. Although mage is a second best.

Same. I’m so lazy for fights lol

Over the years i tried all and i fell in love with paladin/druid and shaman
i can play all but the most fun i had on these 3
but after legion ended i no longer have fun with ret pala and balance druid they killed the class for me with changes
only shaman remains but if they will change this to boring class i no longer have reason to play this game

I have several “main” alts… flipfloping between them depending my mood
Sure SL is not Alt friendly… that much
Done the sotry and the whole Korthian insanity only one tho’, on my hunter

You can swap mains between patches or expansions. My overall main is a warrior but I’ve barely played it during Shadowlands. It took me 3 months to get him to level 60 lmao.

For me a big sign of “main” is investing in multiple specs of the class.
If when I’m bored of a spec, I feel an urge to reroll, it’s not a main.
If on another char I get the same, but instead I find the same relief in simply investing in another spec of the same class, (and thus mastering multiple facets of the class) this is a sign it is mainworthy for me.

I’ve only ever done with with the rogue class and the shaman class looking at legion onwards.
Prior to this my decisions were largely dictated by the unattractiveness of levelling a new char so I “mained” simply the class I had gone furthest on irrespective of whether it was “truly me”

Now, because it’s easier to level a char and swap specs, I find such a thing is heavily contingent on whether multiple specs of the class interest me. Rogue, shaman and Priest are my most played (and long lived) classes since legion and it’s no coincidence that on each of these classes I’ve enjoyed trying every one of their specs.

It may be different for others but this is how it works for me.

It’s the one you put the most effort in, for me it has always been this character.

^ This.

Cata baby, here. I mained a MM Hunter during MoP and WoD, but hated the spec in Legion (There’s a special place in hell for whoever thought Sidewinders was a good idea). DH seemed crazy fun, so I created this guy and played him up to Broken Shore, when I got bored and unsubbed. Came back part the way into BfA, but what with unlocking Allied Races and wanting to collect the Warfront sets I’ve not really settled into any single main character since.

It really is just what you’re enjoying the most at the time, I’ve found.

If you do the daily and weekly chores on that character it’s a Main.

Yes on Kul Tirans it looks pretty awesome.

I liked warlock, but over time it got abilities removed and it became generic feeling.

WoW classes/specs in general have a generic feel to them. Even the so called ‘un-pruning’ never really brought class identity back.

Net result, I can’t identify with any of them and see all my characters as an alt army.

I never do that on any of my hunters. All BM but I just dont enjoying passive play

I have played mage since vanilla and took a big turn around in legion. Tried all the classes ok high content lvl and went for holy pally, because trying to do as much dmg as healer was and still are the big fun for me

Always be a warrior for me.

Played warrior since I started playing WoW and it just feels right to play.

No matter what other classes I end up playing I always come back to warrior… most fun for me

I progress through the content on one specific char. For instance, this is my main - this patch. Last patch is was a shadow priest. Previous to that it was a Paladin from Mists through to BFA. If I tank again it will be back to Paladin.

My main is the one I grind rep on, as it isnt account wide yet I CBA doing it on more then one character.
As to picking a class, thats easy. I have a max level character for each of the covenants…
and they are all BM hunters! (so sue me…I know what I like!).

How Do You Know A Class Is Your Main?

I’m currently playing 20 characters at lebel 50 with 5 to join soon.

Plate classes at level 50:

  • Warriors: 4
  • Paladins: 2
  • DKs: 2

Mail classes at 50:

  • Hunters: 3
  • Shamans: 1

Leather classes:

  • Duids: 1
  • Rogues: 2
  • Monks: 1
  • DHs: 1

Cloth classes:

  • Mage: 1
  • Warlock: 1
  • Priest: 1

In conclusion, I would say I’m more of a Hunter, Warrior class player.

Ask yourself this question:
WoW changed and now you can only have one character. Not 50 as right now.

Which one would you chose ?
To me it would be my BE Hunter.

Cheers.

I’ve been trying a number of different classes when I first got into WoW. With some of them I stuck for shorter, some of them for longer. But, ultimately, only mage felt “right” and kept me engaged even after years of playing it. As such, it’s been my main for all this time.

Feels great to main a character that “stability” is first and foremost thought first.

If a class relies on a burst (like a fire mage) people complaining about it ruins it patch to patch, so you never feel safe.
