I havent leveld a new character in a long time and I feel a bit lost with all this choice we have. i dont know which expansion to pick for my leveling.
I just know that I dont want any content thats too old like vanilla, bc, woltk, cata and mop as I leveld through those zones a lot. But now I still have 3 expansions to choose from, WoD, Legion and BfA. But I dont know which one to choose, and even if I chose one I dont know what would be my reasoning for choosing that expansion and not the other two.
If I choose WoD I can start building my garrison which might be a bit usefull when I have max level character. In Legion and BfA you can pick the order of the zones so I can leave the most boring for last and probably skip most of that zone. Are there any rewards that I can farm while leveling in one of those 3 expansion?
My leveling route is obvious irrelevant for you as I level through the zones where I have remaining uncollected quest reward appearances for the respective armour type.
I get bored of the content I’ve done so many times so I tend to hop around and a bit here and there as I feel like it. I don’t stick to one expansion and I hate being limited in the dungeon finder to one expansion. It’s so ineffficient compared to having access to all the dungeon quests.
Alas, Blizzard introduced minimum level requirements for BFA zones. You’re stuck with Zuldazar/Tiragarde Sound at the start. Nazmir/Drustvar don’t properly unlock until level 25+, and Vol’dun/Stormsong Valley don’t properly unlock until 35+. Also, if follow all the breadcrumb trails and do all the quests you will not even complete the second zone before Darion starts trying to summon you to the Shadowlands.
My personal recommendation out of WOD, Legion, and BFA is Legion. It is the only expansion of the three that has maintained that true “choose your own adventure” style while WOD and BFA are much more linear.
Leveling 1-50? I do it as a tank through Classic dungeons.
I choose old expansions like Classic because there you don’t see the toxic gogogo mentality of BFA dungeons. People are more chill, you can even as a tank lead the group to optionally boss (even a full BRD), and most of the time people don’t complain, they just follow the tank.
Classic is my preference because have the biggest number of dungeons available. It is possible to do random dungeons from 15 to 50 without repeating a single dungeon. In fact, I try not to repeat a dungeon with any character to have more variety and be less bored. If I queue and it is a dungeon I have already made with that character I quit. Even sometimes I pick individual dungeons in case the ones available and my level is already done and I have low-level ones that are without complete. Not repeating dungeons is also better for XP thanks to having always a dungeon quest available.
From time to time I switch to other expansions, except BFA, only a few, continuing my plan of leveling without repeating any dungeon.
To your title question: Exclusively questing through zones I find appealing enough. Maybe I’d fun a fun questline.
Leveling dungeons are full of people with a… different mindset than mine, let’s say, so I stay away unless someone who’s leveling alongside me wants to run any.
I try avoiding repeating content, or if i repeat any i make sure it’s the fun type.
I hope that reply helps somehow
About the post: Leveling through legion does not really earn you anything unless you’ve never unlocked world quests the normal way, same for Battle for Azeroth. That way you’d get 1-2 zones out of the way for the friendly reputation requirement.
BFA also has the war campaign while leveling for the most part but i haven’t done the war campaign since it was current so i don’t know of they kept the leveling ones and if yes at which levels since they were every 2-3 or so levels as current. Maybe every level above 45?
For Warlords: you can earn yourself things for your garrison but unless you do it exclusively through questing you’d barely earn anything.
So… I just suggest you get that done on a singular capped character if you ever want anything from there some day.
I level through classic starter zones.
WoD intro > silverpine forest > hillsbrad > azshara, with dungeon queues always on. Gets me to 50 in like 6-8 hours.
If you’re mainly questing and only doing the dungeons for the story in BFA you can easily complete the three zones for your faction and unlock the ship locations for the other faction’s side and still have a few levels left over before 50.
I’ve levelled a bunch of characters through BFA content since the squish (questing only) and never made it all the way through the second zone. Are you following some kind of story-based AAP route that avoids most of the quest hubs?
Of those, I think WoD is the best, followed by BFA and then Legion. The thing about Legion is that its leveling is a bit meh compared to WoD, the story is meandering in the beginning (and you only see the beginning while leveling), the zones are too desaturated and overall - not really good in my opinion. Legion’s questing is overall good, Suramar and Argus are awesome in my opinion, but the initial zones aren’t that good.
Legion also suffers from insane borrowed power that is infused in the whole questing, which makes it feel disjointed now that the power is gone. You still get the quests to recover the artifact weapons, but their power is already sapped, making the entire expansion feel… broken.
WoD doesn’t suffer from that, because it’s main “borrowed power”, the garrison is still fully functional, even if you can skip most of it.
BFA in my opinion had great leveling for both factions. I really enjoyed Nazmir and all the Alliance zones, but WoD is still the best. Where WoD suffers, but BFA shines is the dungeons. WoD has a few stinkers in that department, a few dungeons that are just dull corridors, but BFA has only one weak dungeon, and even it is quite good.
If you want pure speed follow harldans speed levelling route.
You need some consumables to optimise and to do it with dmf up but even without it’s really quick.
I am pretty much done with speed levelling so I just randomly pick a zone whilst doing some other random dungeons etc at same time. I almost always do the wod intro without fail though.
I think chromie time has promise but needs some work to become immersive I think with the classic servers that won’t happen though. I suppose it would be hard to equalise all the zones they weren’t designed with this in mind, let’s face it classic zones are so efficient post 30 due to the fact they never were designed to be used with flying
If there were any vanilla ones I’d pick those, so mostly going with cata revamps, if not TBC, Wrath or Legion as well as Voldun/Tiragarde from BfA. But it’s mostly the dungeons that make it fun - however, pre Cata, you don’t receive any mastery stat which can hurt.
Since I favor blood elves, I go through Eversong Woods and Ghostlands (I can never get enough of them…) for certain, generally following up with ashenvale or barrens.
For alliance (where velves are my go to), it’s, for some reason, Duskwood. Maybe because it’s so scary and dark, or the stories are good? Also Stranglethorn most of the time…
…anyways! I suggest Legion, or maybe Vol’dun/Tiragarde from BfA, just questing.
