How do you setup your alt?

Hi all,

I am curious how do people setup their alt, how long it takes and whether there is something useful I may missing.

In my case it looks like this.
Once I make new char and log in, I enable extra action bars (I am using default blizz UI because it works just fine for me). Then I add HS, Bruto and Yak on action bars, as well as few typical toys that change my appearance. Also I add mount that can be used at level 1, which is later replaced by “favourite mount” option.

Next I make heirlooms relevant to class.

Then I log out, log onto main, buy 4x32slot bags, Mark of Satyr enchant for neck and elemental force for melee weapon. Then I send all those + around 10k to my alt.

I log alt again, collect all and after that I make macroso for changing specialization - 3 of them, and add them on action bar, so I can chance specs quickly without opening respected UI tab. I also make some macros to say hi to party members and goodbye, for entering and finishing dungeons.

After that, I have to endure 10 levels before using Yak to transmog heirloom appearance and basically that’s it.

Now that I’ve wrote all of this, I realize how much would I like to somehow automate this, which is of course not possible.

How do you setup your alt?

Regards,
Imm

Use the city transmogger so you don’t have to suffer 10 levels!

True, but it takes too long to go there and come back. It’s much more time efficient to blaze first 10 levels I would say.

I just log in and start queuing dungeons instantly.

I can picture the dark legacy comic already…

Running past all the quest givers starter zone like “hold that thought, I’ll be right back!”

But no my setup is pretty much the same, would be nice if it could be more automated.

my setup:

make lvl 1 toon, run to nearest city with bank and mailbox - send over 32 slot bags to fill up toon inventory and gold to unlock all bank slots and fill those with 32 slot bags. Fill the bank with crafting reagents and forget it is there, aka never use or sell it.

Make a new toon and repeat.

If too many characters on realm, delete a random level 1 to make room for a new one.

I copy an elvui-profile and go.

When creating macros you have 2 categories: Character specific macros and general macros.

When you use macros on multiple characters, you want to create them in the general macros sectio,n so you won’t have to re do them every time.

There’s also an addon called MySlot that let’s you save certain actionbar setups and copy them to other characters.

In your case you could setup your toys and macros once, save this actionbar setup. Then load it on your alt.

I spend half a lifetime on the char selection screen to create the perfect appearance for the character, keeping the transmog I want for it (and which I spent ages building on wowhead’s dressing room) in mind.

Then I log my banker, send some gold and bags and BfA XP potions, and the instant 40 renown item, and the 200 conduits thing over to the new char.

After that, I log the new alt, hit the “set up everything for this class” macro (which selects the appropriate profiles for each addon I use, etc), hit reload a few times for all of that to take effect, and then I’m ready to roll. Except I join my own guild too: apply to it via the guild finder, log the guild master, invite, log back, accept.

I select a tank or healer spec, visit Chromie to select the Burning Crusade timeline, and spam dungeons 'till level 17. At that point, I switch to BfA, and spam dungeons 'till 50. Then I go to Shadowlands, select Threads of Fate, join the Night Fae, grab all the zone fill-the-bar quests, set my HS to my sanctum, boost myself to renown 40, and do objectives, side-quests, and PF, NW, and Mists once (for the respective quests). When I hit 60, I make sure to hit renown 76 ASAP (via callings and weeklies, most of the time I’m around 71-72 when I hit 60), and start researching the mission table. Once that is unlocked, I boost my first follower to 60 with the level 30 boost and XP tokens. Then I grab the rest of the followers and start progressing the table campaign.

The alt is now done, and joins Tink’s Table Farming Club.

Most of it is.

You know…I’ve never actually thought about this. I have an alt of every class and I hardly ever touch them because I get sick of having to set them up…in a naive hope to make them as similar to my main as possible.

I think I need an actual method or system to approach it in a much easier way so I’m interested in seeing more responses to this thread.

Pretty similar to you actually.

The only differences:
I don’t do the neck and weapon enchants.
I send the gold to the alt and have it buy its own bags.
No macros.

Yup, same.
Then get to level 10. Logout and play main. Get bored and logout. Then go downstairs and watch a movie.

Turn on bottom left action bar. Import standarized hotkeys (always have auto-run and interrupt on same keys, across games even). Grab some netherweave bags from guild bank. Set left-most bag to trade goods. Equip the few heirlooms I have so they can be transmogrified and I have to use the yak less while leveling.

What about sending bags/gold from main? Ot well, at least gold, so that alt can buy bags and enchants?

I never do that. The char will be fine for leveling. It is possible i send some gold for buying mount riding when i need it. Not sure what enchants you mean. And i do not have heirlooms.

UI parts probably, but other stuff I cannot automate in the true meaning of the word like manually making and equiping heirlooms, sending gold from main, and enchanting armor.

But I get your point - UI is a huge part of it obviously.

Yeh, pretty much the same except:

I make my own bags, don’t bother with enchants, only send 1k gold and get on that transmog from the moment those heirlooms are equipped…

I don’t do that much.

I setup my Bartender and Xperl bars, make the heirlooms, and mog up at 10.
I keep the heirloom chopper/favorite mounts on Alt-Q and Yak on Alt-E. (No longboy, I was never good at making thousands daily… :joy:)

A few macros for my spells later on so the action bars aren’t crowded.
I get bags from the Yak when I get about 100g from questing (around lvl 20), till then the random drops and the Yak will suffice.

i level up go to rbgs hit rival and full 252 alt in 1 week trough pvp, easy and fun.

Make alt

Slap on Heirlooms

Reach level 2 ( for more rested )

Rush to Inn

send 50 gold & the attire thing to transmog on the spot

Craft 4x30 slot bags on my tailor boi

Log out until 100% rested

Forget it exists for 6 weeks
