I’m a Survival Hunter and I’d like to know to how to use this ability without gap closing so I don’t put myself in immediate danger.
You can’t avoid the gap closing effect. Here are some things you can do:
-save disengage to use right after if needed (not if you’re the kill target).
-try to use it as a mobility tool instead, such as using it on a caster/healer to gain distance from a melee, instead of closing the distance.
-use it on the kill target after harpoon trapping the healer, which is when you actually want to close the distance.
-generally be aware of the flow of the game, don’t use it if enemy stuns/cds are ready. You’ll get stunned and pressured, wasting your cooldown.
use disengage or feign death straight after the gap closer. this usually un targets and jumps you back
but its a bit of a waste
Hello,
Coordinated assault is created like that by design in order to force the hunter in melee range. It’s a kill/curse effect - you get to do the big damage, but you put yourself in the fire
Otherwise, a purely ranged palystyle may be incentivized.
There are a few tricks though:
- The classic Coordinated Assault → Disengage. Disengage is off the GCD so there is no downside to it. This however is mostly for PVE, as for PVP you don’t want to waste Disengage
- For PVP what is best is to use a Coordinated Assault mouseover macro and do it on a totem, on a random pet, or the enemy healer (generally whoever is nearest to you) just to get the effect (the damage portion of CA is negligible) and then fire the big kill shots into the kill target. One of the best plays in PVP as survival you can do is Coordinated Assault mouseover on the enemy healer, trap them, and then fire kill shots at the enemy DPS. Thus, you use the ability both as a gap closer on the healer for the trap (without wasting Harppon), and at the same time you don’t rush into melee range and start attacking them from afar
Good luck on your survival journey!
Cheers
Alternatively to what was said, learn to recognize when you should be in melee and when you should not, and use CA during the moments you should. Survival has to be in melee for maximum efficiency so while kiting sometimes is good, you shouldn’t overdo it and play fully ranged. It isn’t how it is meant to be played.
Focus macros for Spearhead and CA are essential.
Focus macro harpoon, Flanking Strike as well and you can kite like a god.
