How does expansion pack selection work if you rolled on Classic Era first?

Maybe this has already been answered but say I roll a new character on a classic era server and then later decide to progress on to TBC like original progression. Does the system allow that or is it a case of if you wanted TBC start rolling there?

Thanks!

@Tre: Now that the realms have been split, if you create an entirely new character, you need to create it where you want to play it. In other words, if you want to play TBCC, you need to roll on a TBCC realm.

Thanks for clarifying :slightly_smiling_face:

You can play your character on TBC too, but 1. You have to pay, 2 you won’t get any of your progress that you made after prepatch.

@Dida: Cloning option only applies to old characters (ones that existed before the split). New characters (created after split) are not cloneable.

Wait, so if I started playing a day before prepatch, I have to pay for character transfer?

Why bother, your character will only be level 12 maximum. Make a new one.

On existing characters this is what you do.

  1. Log into which game you want to play on Classic or TBC.
  2. Press choose expansion, this is free.
  3. Play that expansion.
  4. If you want to play with that character on the other expansion you pay to clone it, BUT that clone is from the start of Pre-patch.

After you have chosen your expansion, if you want to use the same name in the other expansion you can delete the clone ghost character.

@Vitold: As Dottie already kindly explained, you only pay IF you want to use the same characters in both TBCC and permanent Classic era. Picking just one (either) is free.

It’s just that I don’t remember if I chose anything when created a characte. Is there a way to check that back? I’m lvl 25 rn, so it would be a shame to lose all this

@Vitold: You can not log in without choosing, which client you are using and the client determines, which version of the game you play. Also, the original Classic realms upgraded to TBCC and one had to manually select installing the Classic era client, if one wanted to use that. Surely you know, which versions of the game you have installed? puzzled

Well I believe, if it says “Burning Crusade Classic” on the character selection screen, I’m in no danger?

@Vitold: Then you are ok to play TBCC. Have fun!
