So, I quit playing after CATA and recently got back to the game again and I have no freaking clue how the mythic system works. I've tried to find som over-all guide on wowhead and such but have'nt really pegged it down yet.
So... This is what I've gathered this far...
1. There's no way of q-ing for mythics right? Making a group works like old-school pre-groupfinder?
2. I can't teleport to the dungeon, I have to run there?
3. Once you managed to find a group and finish a mythic dungeon you get some kind of key that unlocks a harder version. So if I do a mythic zero I get a number 1 key and if I finish that one I get a number 2 key or does the key system have some element of RNG in it?
4. How do I use the key when I get one?
5. If, let's say, I have a number 2 key and wants to run a mythic 2, does every group member need a number 2 key or could they have different numbers and the content scales according to their keys?
Please help, I'm confused...
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. You'll get a +2 key when you do a mythic dungeon for the first time. If you finish that in minimum time the key will upgrade into a random +3 key. If you completely the dungeon quickly enough you can upgrade the key even into 2 or 3 levels higher.
4. At the start of a dungeon there's a small golden pylon. You click it and it opens a window where you can drag & drop the key. After the confirmation button it will starts the M+ dungeon with a 10 second timer to get ready.
5. Only one person in the group needs the key, and the dungeon will will be the same for everyone based on the key that was used at the start. So if I were to do a M+ dungeon with you and we'd use your +2 key, the dungeon would be a +2 difficulty for me too despite having a +13 key in my inventory.

1. No, you can't automatically queue for them like for random bgs or heroic dungeons, you have to make a group, or join an existing one on the "Premade Groups" tab.
2. Yes, you have to run there, or your team members can summon you, if they're already there.
3. Yes, it goes like this, although there's no lvl 1 key, you get a lvl 2 key when you complete a "normal mythic" dungeon. Your key grows only if you can complete the run on time.
4. There is a little altar (? - or whatever it's called) when you enter the dungeon, you have to place your key into it. When you did that, a countdown begins, and the run starts. Do that only when everyone's inside and ready.
5. No, if you have a number 2 key, only you have to activate it, and you can join groups for dungeons that you don't have a key for. The dungeon's difficulty is the key that has been activated.
I hope i could help, if anything's unclear, ask :)
you have a lot of achievement points for quitting after cata =) so good job.
if you really want to get high keys, ensure to play either as a tank or healer.
The elephant in the room is raider.io. It's the "rating system" used by the community for selecting who is in the group or not. If your score is low, no one will want you. It's a flawed tool, through no fault of their own, and the specifics are a topic for another day.
But, be aware that such an addon exists.

Thanx to you all for clearifying. It's a bit intimidating to get into the mythic scene when you don't know what the h*ll you're doing...
The achievment points, yes I had a lot when I quit since I played quite a lot back then... Think I had about nine k when I quit. Got back to the game in late legion so the rest of the points are from leveling up alts and clearing out MOP and WOD dungeons and such.
So what does raider.io. base the score on?

It uses the mythic+ leader boards, which register the first 500 runs of a particular key level on any given server, higher keys and completing on time give you higher points.
There's a bit of a problem with it atm because it only records the first 500 so you need to do them early in the week on high pop servers or they won't register, but they said at blizzcon that they are going to link progress to armory so that should fix that.
My advice, start with doing everything on mythic0, they're pretty much the same difficulty as cata heroics, just pay attention to mechanics. Then slowly move up (preferably with your own keys as they are likely to upgrade at your level), learn the affixes and what they do, thus what you need to do... As long as you don't jump too far ahead you should manage to be doing +10 in no time :)
05/11/2018 11:17Posted by ElehoofeSo what does raider.io. base the score on?
It gives a score based on the level of the key and also the time you took to complete it. For example, a +10 done in time will give you 100 points, but if you do a +10 and fail the timer horribly, you can end up with 50 points, just because of doing it too slow, even if a +10 is significantly harder (even untimed) than a +5. Each dungeon registers your best run (if it was also recorded by the leaderboards - see explanation above about top 500) - and adding up each dungeon score will give your your R.io score. For example, doing all dungeons on +10 in time will give you @1k score.
It's generally unlikely you will be accepted in runs with a lot lower score than the key is (possibly more likely if you are a tank - but druid tanks are not very wanted nowadays) - like getting in a +9-+10 with less than 900-1k score. Druid healers, on the other hand, are quite valued. Stick to the keys that are close to your score for better chances. If you are on a populated realm, do the runs early in the reset. As the week progresses, more and more people do them, and the leaderboards fill with high keys. Lower pop realms can stay unoccupied until the end of the reset. If you have a person in the party that is on a low pop server, your run will get recorded on their server - so that helps too.
Edit: Darksorrow is a low pop realm. You could run +2 and +3s today and they would still register. If that is your main, it will help.

There are guides for this too - https://www.wowhead.com/mythic-keystones-and-dungeons-guide
As mentioned above guardian druids are not highly sought after, but if you are willing and able to heal, that will not only open up doors for you, but significant reduce your down time.
Balance is very good in m+, however, many just see them as another DPS class.
Competition to get in m+ as a DPS class is fierce. And, if you play a spec perceived as "weak" like feral druid, there is no competition or wait time. Its like multiplication or division by zero. At best its null, at worse its undefined. You will get instant declined, and if lucky, no one will insult you.

Someone above explained the key level increase is timed. But no one said about the RNG you're asking about. That will be which dungeon the new key is for. The upgraded key might not be the same dungeon you just did.05/11/2018 09:58Posted by Elehoofe3. Also if you get a key you really don't want to do, you can delete it. The next mythic you complete will generate a new key, with one level lower. And again which dungeon it's for, is random.
If you don't complete your key in time, you'll get a new lower key for the same (I think..) dungeon.

Wait, so is this how people aim for specific keys? I always assumed that no matter what, if you deleted the key, you'd get the same xD. This helps me a lot, thanks!

Unless they changed things from Legion, this is not how it works. If you delete your key, you don't get a new one.

What, even if you run another normal Mythic after deleting your key, you don't get a new key?
Seriously, just run M+ with guildies. You can effectively ignore all the raider.io drama.
Another vague part is the requirement of achievement "Ready for War".
https://www.wowhead.com/achievement=12510/ready-for-war
You need to complete it 7/8 before you can enter an M0 dungeon.
The adventure guide doesn't know about this achievement and wrongfully offers M0 when your item level is 320.

That's only for kings rest as alliance and siege of boralus for horde, all the others can be entered as soon as you hit 120, regardless of item level. Did all but siege in the first week at around 300ilvl, they are quite a bit more difficult obviously, but not impossible.
