I can’t answer for wow since eve if my second char is a holy pala and better geared i do not meet the requirement to do much content but as other game , i feel like i have much more control on the matter and the way the game goes as a healer but i also find enjoying to keep people alive.
Even if it was a close shave this give an adrenaline rush just like back then when tanking. PS: I hate healing people that are insulting, i have some patience but to an extend.
actually, its very much the other way around for me.
i ve always been a healer or support because its a natural tendency for me as im quite caring and protective. i love helping, healing people and being part of a group is very important for me. i like it when people can count on me and i do a good job.
its the most appealing when tanks do big pulls or it gets stressful. just the way i have to prioritise who gets healed/dispelled first and using all my cooldowns to get us through is really fulfilling.
i just cant understand people who are all about big dps or being number one in kills or whatnot. i dont know why but its completely uninteresting for me and always has been. everytime i play dps in any game i just…dunno…i bore out and lose interest after a few games and go back to healing/supporting.
but when i clutch heal someone and we make it despite all the odds or i duo up with someone and he is able to get a ton of kills because i kept him alive then thats just, i dunno, it hits a sweet spot for me.
guess its the equivalent of being top dps or having the most kills.
i do have dps characters in wow but i barely play them. dont even know when i last touched my hunter. i recently made a tank but i still have serveral healers as my priority when i play.
Tanks tactics are very punishable if not done correctly.
IMO Healers you can ignore everything, and even if you mess up there are more healers to cover up for you compared to tanks.
I disagree with the remaining of your post. If you think mana is difficult to manage you should have tried Cataclysm Heroic dungeons back then. Nowadays Mana is like non-concern for majority of contents.
I healed since WOTLK. I am just saying IMO healing is the easiest role.
Do you know what happens if a healer fails to channel their CD in a demanding content? Take a guess.
Funny to say since you never done even 1 mythic encounter according to your armory. Try healing nzoth mythic for example and come back at me with your arguement. Unless you play Hpala. That is different.
For your heroics… Maybe
For demanding content, the role that carry the most responsibility is the healer.
Even in raids, cooldowns are set throught a 12m fight like nzoth. If a healer do not use CD’s its punishing, besides that tanks cant withstands such big hits therefore a healer has to have his defensive CD up in the required time.
I love healing myself. Every single mmorpg I played I chose a healer. Though as I don’t raid anymore I usually play as balance now because it’s faster to do content
I haven’t mained healer this patch but I have mained a healer for my serious content most of wow. In vanilla it became a dwarf priest after I maxed my gnome mage, belf pally in TBC and Wrath, Troll Shaman/Worgen Priest in Cats, took a break and returned in Legion and then Monk was my healer main along a DH tank. In BFA I mained a priest and shaman healer up till 8.3 then swapped to a Hunter.
I like being the supporter. I like setting up plays and helping other people shine. I like a triage playstyle. Healing is a natural fit for me. Even in Mobas like LoL or HoTS my primary played roles are support/healer. My main in Everquest was a healer
It feels so good when you manage to just keep a group from dying during a super hard pull, it gives a huge buzz, adrenaline and you feel like you’ve worked hard. Sure DPS and tanks work hard during such monster pulls, but ultimately their fate during it is not their own, it is yours.
Healing gives the biggest buzz during progression content regarding dungeons. You work your backside off and it is obvious how it matters and impacts, it’s very visible. Conversely you get a bit more opportunities to relax during farm overheated content.
I really hope blizz introduce a new healer some time. I love learning how the different healers have worked over time.
Been playing healer since early Wotlk. I agree with this 100%. In most cases, you can even go into raids without a clue and just heal. DBM will do most of the work anyway.
Healers are basically followers of the group that just keep everyone alive, and DPS on downtime.
I used to love being a healer or dps hyprid healer helping people but the toxic behaviour and constantly being blamed for the mistakes that dps them self make by standing in everything they can made me quit healing.
I do miss being a healer somedays but i don’t miss the stress or the idiots who have no manners at all.
I learned a tactic towards this. You point out the DPS making the stupid mistake before they have a chance to even type anything. It makes them feel stupid, trust me
I haven’t had any complaints about healing for years
