How does Stealth work in RP/lore?

Was wondering how effective stealth can be in RP, like can you stealth your way in bright light? Is Stealth something to do with magic? Has it something to do with Shadow Magic or whatever… also… suppose you can look at is as if I’m asking lore-wise.

Depends on the rogue, I believe. Some of them may simply be good at sneaking around, some of them use minor shadow magic, some of them use engineering, and maybe the invisibility pots could even be used by an alchemist!

A long discussion finally put to rest by Safe Haven. Via magic, rogues can go completely invisible.

Rogue =/= average Thief though… just keep that in mind

Depends entirely on your type of rogue.

  • Illusion magic (arcane)
  • Shadow magic
  • Invisibility potions
  • Engineering
  • Usual sneaking / use of the environment
  • Loa (trolls)
  • Elune’s gift (night elves)
    etc. etc.

Take whatever makes most sense for your character.

basically in really simple terms:

You can mess with certain types of magic to go full invis, you can use regular ol’ camouflage, you can use tech, there’s blessings, normal sneaking

It really just depends on how you want to write your character.

The default for rogue seems to imply using shadow magic to go full invis as shown above in the Safe Haven cinematic (the action sequence is really worth several watches, I love it)

Besides echoing what others said before me, all I can really add is that it seems that rogue stealth (from the cinematic) still has sound; meaning that in a canon environment it still could have sound I suppose.

I’ve always liked this idea most. Be creative and since your character might already work with potions and poisons, this is very fitting.

Shadow magic to me though, used by a rogue, seems odd. They spend their time on so much else, so having to learn shadow magic and how to go fully invisible seems like a somewhat impressive feat. Besides, them going invisible doesn’t momentarily look purple, black, void-ish when they shift, as we see shadow/void magic usually appear as. Even if they themselves don’t cast the spell, i.e using a rune or enchanted object perhaps.

If they go invisible by magical means, it is more likely it is arcane related, in my opinion.

Dungeons and Dragon =/= WoW.

Stealth in WoW can be arcane, but it can also be shadow magic.

Really depends on race and proficiency. Not really an issue for lets say a deathstalker / forsaken to learn that amount of shadow magic. For other races, lets say a blood elf, maybe its more likely to be arcane. As said above, really depends on the character, but all the things above are -possible- at least.

Rogues are just crazy versatile and come from all walks of life as we have seen in the order hall. To say X is more likely than Y isn’t something I’d do without getting some specifics about the char.

Not that it stops warriors from doing the ol’ grab’n’snap. :muscle:

However Blizzard wants it to work for a specific storyline.

Who knew one could farm so many upvotes by posting 1 video?

Feels better than putting on the infinity gauntlet…
