How does the entry to Season 2's Mythic+ work?

I have never played beyond the first season. This time, I would actually like to try getting into Mythic+, but I wonder how that is supposed to work.
I am asking because, according to Wowhead, keystone level 2 loot will have an item level of 639. Assuming an adequate challenge, this probably requires an item level around 630. Where am I supposed to get that gear if I did not play Mythic+ in season 2?
Or will there be an adjustment to what you get in normal and heroic dungeons, on Siren Island, world quests, etc.?

Yes. All season have a near instant catch up mechanic. You can:

  • Get Weathered Crest of Season 2 and order cheap crafted gear that lands between M0 and M2. You can literally just fly around and collect orbs.
  • Complete the 11.1 story Quest Line. It always rewards 3/8 or 4/8 Explorer Gear (in some slots, Adventure Gear) from the new Season
  • Both Normal and Heroic dungeons will drop Season 2 items, but the biggest deal here is that Heroic dungeon difficulty actually moves to S2, meaning enemies will have more health and damage. Normal mode will drop new item level loot, but their difficulty remains unchanged.
