Hi, I recently got back into the game and I’m looking for a mage to use as a main. I wanted to know how difficult it is to enter as a pug in m+ as I don’t have a group to do them in.
Very little to do about you being a mage, it is more an issue of:
- You have no Rio score, nor dungeon XP to show. So you will be competing for a spot with people who do.
- Same as 1, only this time gear.
Now once those two are solved, you should have no big issues getting into a group. Just keep in mind, at 25+ networking is key - so network your way up the levels, build yourself a solid mass of players to work with.
Then you will have no issues, no matter what class you chose
Pretty decent. Good rep and blood lust. In the times when thr rep isnt the best just search the groups for ‘bl’, it makes things faster.
i pugged my way to almost 3k, but i was never top dps in any run, except the one where the tank was my duo and we giga pulled around my combustion
other than that, its useful to have mage for a bunch of reasons other than just raw dps
sadly i made a mage 17 years ago with the intent of being a glass cannon dps and i found myself being a support class more often in modern wow
I see, thanks all for the comments, is good to know mage is good even if dont make tons of damage
Should have been here for just after the mage rework, actually felt like a real dps class again.
Then a bunch of muppets from 1% playerbase started moaning about how well mage was doing and it got repeat nerfs due to pairing too well with evoker.
Fire mage is still pretty fun, but once you get past 20’s in general and start climbing higher you will not be topping the dps charts without very specific pulls and your not going to see that in random pugs.
Its still better than it was before the rework but just feels pathetic the way they screwed mages over to please a very small part of the playerbase, who seem to believe we should only max our dps with very specific tank pulls.
Oh that and many of the talent choices are still dead on arrival as they are still a dps loss, so its fairly rigid what you have to take to do well.
Fire focus’s more on Haste > Vers these days compared to frost focusing more on mastery so you also have to be wary of what sort of mage you want to play unless you have time to carry around multiple sets of gear.
the people were not even at the 1%, they SAW the 1% top playing mage and complained.
It’s pretty good, but fire mage was overnerfed.
The problem is pi and aug, they just refuse to deal with it in a proper manner.
Aug should have never been a thing, should have just been a melee dps spec.
yeah i agree, the problem was that firemage was GOOD, and it worked well with premade, and then it becomes broken with aug and right comp and giga pulls
but in your avg 20- key you are rarely top dps… unless its free hold, and you do a giga combust
