How hard is it to find and ban bots?

I find this question abit curious. Becus it cant be that hard since i messed up and tried a bot program, they caught me within hours. my first ever breaking the rules over 20 years as a customer. there was no question about it,perma closure of that account.(lesson learned)

And now when i started on a fresh account i wanted to test it out.been flying around isle of dorn and RECORDING all the bots that are pretty obvious are cheating,i send it to blizzard and the battalion of druids are still flying around after a week watching them.

Its almost like the bots are blizzards own bots becus nothing is getting done, the path this battalion use is pretty heavy traffic with bots.

You’ll get someone here making excuses about reporting to analyse them and what not, how ban waves are “effective” which is all a load of bull.

Fact is botters are active throwaway accounts that make more money for them that can offset the risk of their eventual bans on subscription cost, a cost that Blizzard profits off hence not banning them on the spot.

Those ban waves are purely PR saying “look, we did a thing about it!” nevermind you’ll see bots back within the week.

Want effective? Get rid of them before they can make a profit, risk that doesn’t justify the cost for botters.

But nah, they’re given a 2-3 month period to reap their profits on both ends in between ban waves…

The botting situation is more complex than most people understand.
Exposing The Botting Mafia in World of Warcraft

It is like trying to win the Emu war with the assets the Australian army had.

The only effective way to deal with the Bots would be for Blizzard to eat crow and let the players help them police against the bots manually.

thats pretty messed up

Sorry, what?!
How does that work

Suppose i get permabanned on the account, i go into bnet settings make a new starter account then buy the game on this client. Everything i had in terms of mogs, achievements etc will still be available on the new client. All you lose are your characters. You even get a lvl 70 boost when you buy the game again.

this is confusing me, how are things that are bound on the account, available to a new account?
So they ban the game licence instead of the entire battle net account?

because its linked to the same battlenet.

That is really insidious then.
They are monetizing the violation of their ToS

They don’t care. It’s maximum profit this way which is what they actually care about.

Would it not be more profitable to ban the bots more often then?

It’s a company.
It makes them money.
The ToS is also not a law, it’s a set of rules from THEIR side.

Since most people are lazy, there is a demand for carry/gold buying.

Thus thats why botting exists.

People should ignore those services, then the whole botting system crumble.

But how are they supposed to gloat and keep up with FOMO then :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

They allow it and probably earn royalties

Or they are the worst moderators around the world

I think that Hanlon’s Razor is too naive

You fail to recognize that bots are not people like you that try it out for fun. Bots are actually businesses with the intention to make a profit.

They also get banned within the hour. But they got 20 more fresh accounts behind them to replace that banned one. That is the data you are missing.

That is something that is known. Then comes the “tin foil hat theory of a non IT expert” which is my personal opinion :

What you witnessed in Donorgal as a person makes it obvious to spot a bot. But it dosent mean its obvious for a machine to spot a bot. Blizzard cannot have 2000 people flying all over the WoW world looking for bots and manually banning each one, so a computer needs to do that.

And from my very limited experience with computers, they sometimes have problems identifying things that would be obvious to me. So those “botters” pay IT experts to figure out how Blizzard automatic detector works and exploit it to try and not get banned for a couple of days instead of mere hours.

But that is just my opinion.

you dont discuss your bans on wow forum .let alone acknowledging that you were banned before and then you have opened a new account .

This is the most comprehensive answer about botting that covers most things and explains how it’s a never ending cycle.

I’m not sure why people dislike ban waves so much. Either way the botter is back within 24 hours on a new account.
