Somebody reccomended I go around the dragon isles fishing in order to get fish to sell on the auction house in order to make gold, been doing it here and there and have only made around 3000 gold? Am I doing something wrong?
Its the end of the expansion, when tww hits all raw mats for that expansion will go for a high price.

You have around 50 days until the next expansion, you’re not going to be making massive amounts of gold by farming materials/fishing, even the farming bots are little in number at the moment. When TWW hits you’ll be able to make a decent amount of gold then.
Alternatively there are usually stuff from old expansions that sell well, you can probably find guides on the internet for those things.
Gathering will be horrible the first weeks/months in TWW. Competition for nodes/pools. 
Fish is woeful to make gold off right now, and has been for a long while.
Just go do the gold WQs with War Mode ON [+10%], you’ll make 25-30k per week… takes like half an hour to do each set [Wednesdays and Saturdays – if you’re doing it with WM ON I’d recommend avoiding doing it on the first day of the set to minimalize getting ganked].

just leave df and farm old stuff right now, df is filled with bots & end of expansion economy. but old ores, fish etc. are really valuable depending on the supply
You are pretty much in a stale period in wows playerbase most are already done and just waiting for the next expansion, i recommend doing all the wq that gives gold and if you have alts do it on your alts aswell its not much but it will add over time
Check out the WQs that give gold. The Field of Ferocity one often gives 1700g and can be done on all your alts and it takes a few minutes including travel time.
The Dragon Races give good gold I hear, never done them as I’m just not able to.
I wouldn’t be doing stuff you don’t enjoy for long periods, it defeats the purpose of a game.
Do a few quick things to pick up the easy gold. If that isn’t enough for your needs (not sure why you’d need much more than that but to each their own) then tokens are probably a better way to save your sanity and enjoyment of hte game.
