I thought that was the “thing” of the Forum here. spouting half truths to enrage everyone and then enjoying the show. That seems to be what most people here are doing

Weirdly i can’t edit the post i made with my DK so i just make another one.
I know that Velen didn’t want to leave his family, and that the Naaru prevented the ship from turning around. Just wanted to rub a little salt in the wound.
But, and that’s not meant as a joke, i would really like to know what would have happened if he and his followers instead tried a guerilla-war like the broken and the army of the light. It seemed to be really effective and at that time they (propably) had more people than now (considering they left many to die and some of them are still alive), still some artifacts like the Naaru-staff-thing given to holy-priests, and the legion wasn’t nearly as dug in as it was during our invasion.
Add to that the possibility of Naaru freezing armies with light powers (seen on Draenor during the Mag’har recruiting-Quest) and the Legion should’ve been beaten back then ;D
You meanie!
Keep in mind that Blizzard probably didn’t know that Lightforged Draenei will be a thing when they introduced Exodar Draenei. All Draenei were meant to flee from Argus because they had to find a way to stop the Legion.
The introduction of the Lightforged Draenei and their success made the escape of the rest quite weird indeed… Again, Blizzard’s masterful writing
My headcanon is - all those that fled from Argus were supposed to be taken away. Draenei’s task was to find other species, sentient enough to be incorporated into the Army of the Light. But some of them, the most vengeful and quick-to-act wanted to fight right then and there so Xe’ra decided that they will become the “initial phase” of the Army of the Light until the rest of the Draenei gather more races. If all Draenei stayed, Naaru’s plan of gathering more peoples would be for naught.
Also, civilians and children couldn’t stay and fight…
Probably, heck Metzen had forgotten that it was Eredar that turned Sargeras into a Dark Titan and Draenei were they native people squatting in Outlands when he retconned whole Eredar/Draenei lore in TBC.
If I recall correctly Genedar Draenei fled together but at some point LF-to-be Draenei wanted to strike back at the Legion so separated from Genedar Draenei with the guidance of everybody’s beloved Naaru, Xe’ra. Velen kept fleeing because he had gotten vision from the Naaru something about how to gain victory over the Legion… or the Void… or something.
That would be good too. At first, Velen was all about the Light and Naaru. It would make sense for him to keep the journey across the stars if he believed this is what the Light wants them to do.
Quiet! Nobody need to know that! You will blow my cover ><
To quote Velen’s short story “Velen: Prophet’s Lession”:
The Prophet had long ago learned detachment from his visions lest they drive him mad. The third eye of prophecy had been with him so long that having premonitions was like breathing. The ata’mal crystal shards had transformed him into a sentinel of alternate universes without end, sometimes down to their very eclipses in darkness, or ice, or fire. Velen didn’t sorrow for these futures or mourn their extinctions or shout in exaltation at their triumphs. He merely read them, watched their woven tapestries, looking for the roads that led to ultimate triumph, where life and the Light battled back the dark and saved everything from annihilation. What mattered the minor events prized by most mortals—even his own draenei—measured against the awesome responsibility of ensuring the survival of creation?
The duration changes between the sources, mostly going between 500 to 200 years with I recall at least one millenia thrown in the mix too? Anyhow, the latest source is 200 years so it’s the canon one for now. (Hopefully, the number will stop changing now)
It’s a little short for the orcs to start a mythology on Oshun’gun (I believe there would have been, eh, three generations in between) but eh, consistency, WoW, etc. We’re going to pretend that their oral culture was terrible and they forgot.
Orcs did not live long, really. Draenor was a nasty place with all the ogres, gronns, arrakoa (back when they could fly) and whatnot. The lore has very few truly old orcs so I’d guess living to 50 was a lot (and usually limited to shamans).
Plus, it only slightly shifted their religion. They always worshipped the spirits of their dead - it was just that the spirits picked Oshu’gun as their new home.
To be honest, i’m with Anaery here. I think Velen is tragic in that, he did not act brashly enough to follow and force what HE wanted, which was, at the time, save his family and people.
Velen has grown a lot storywise during Argus to me. Can’t help to wonder what would’ve happened.
Now, do we really have to PRETEND it’s terrible ?
Ah, when I wrote that I was thinking at some real life oral culture, and I do not wanted my sentence to be taken as “oral culture sucks at remembering information” and such, since this is not true. Also yeah, Mahmeya make a good point.
I had in mind that they had longevity like humans (though going to adulthood faster), but I failed to take into account how harsh a place Draenor is, in lore. You’re right, there was probably more than three generations.
I meant that ORCISH one is terrible.
They don’t even remember what they were doing 30 years ago and they start repeating the same mistakes again.
Oh yeah, yeah, I badly phrased that, my bad. I was explaining why I wrote the first one that way, not trying to mean that, etc. You get me.
And yeaaaah, the orcish one seems to have some troubles but honestly I’d blame that on a mix of “culture kinda get destroyed in camps” and “consistency not binding the hands of the creators, blablabla”. Mostly the second one.
Do I actually get to get you ?
This frustrates me evritiem.
We’ll raises Araphant together.
Yeah, me too. But well, it is what it is, and at least Warcraft do provides an interesting universe as a background.
Do you think even the two of us will be able to raise this uncontrollable boy?
I was kidnapped and coerced, send help.
Quiet, you’ll have two loving moms!
We can but try to do our best and prepare him to the world. Lovingly, of course. That’s why I have demons to beat him to prepare him for the world’s cruelty.
Do I need to gently apply my Warhammer to your BSDM demonic fantasies? Cause Sigmar help me, I will.
