no , they are mostly wow veteran and MMO refugee , this playerbase is very old , you just have to look youtube comments profils , they are all 30years + , on every FF videos
this game has more players than WOW apparantly bcs of 1 random site , but still no viewers on twitch , this playerbase is very very old
I was in FFXIV in 2011, I started playing WoW at launch when I was in my later teens. A lot of the people that I’ve interacted with, both in WoW and FFXIV are around the same age as me.
I will painfully admit that I have watched 4 Asmon Youtube vids within the last… 3-4 months, and that is soooo out of my comfort zone. I don’t watch stuff like that, but he made me watch 4 times.
The guy frequently sounds like a annoying 16 year old, and I can see how he appeals to the “Cool kids”, but in between that he sounds like he is actually very smart and clever(I mean, he kinda has to be to stay successfull… I am pretty sure!), and the combo of that just facinated me.
I tried FF14 before seeing him start talking about it, but him and this other girl made me want to reactivate FF14. Going on holiday so not happening yet, but I was baffled how a youtuber actually made me want to reactive. I am so not into the social media type of advertising. I’ll give him credit for that… luring me into watching something I never had the patience to watch.
What facinates me more however, is why Blizzard is keeping these threads alive here. Makes me question the intention.
What makes you think that? The franchise(FF) has been around since the 90’s, if not longer. I was never into it(hated joystick consoles + 3D games, as well as the “asian” artstyle), but I had friends in the 90’s(elementary school) that was compleyely hooked on FF. I lost count of how many hours I sat watching some of my friends play it especialy FF7 on their first Play Station(?). I refused to play itself, as I missed the Super Nintendo and Sega mega drive era…
I am quite confident a lot of the FF playerbase as as old as I am(36) and older. Just for the simple reason of it being Final Fantasy.
Hopefully it will be loads of players and hopefully many of them are current WoW subscribers. It’s not that I want WoW to die but we are not going to see change without financial consequences. As long as money keeps coming in Blizzard will keep repeating the same pattern. For example Ion has already stated that he would do Covenants the same away again if he had the opportunity to go back.
Considering that most of their money now is probably coming from the Cash Shop and not the subscriptions, and considering that MTX is typically top heavy - it is going to take a lot of volume to cause a noticeable financial shift from the norm.
It’s why I think that highlighting FFXIV is the best thing that players have done for WoW since the readID travesty. Feedback has been tried for years and it doesn’t work. Maybe competition will.
If 36 is old I will laugh. I am 45 years old in rl, there are many older players in my WOW guild. FFXIV this one game we are all talking about in the FF franchise and not the entire franchise has only been around since 2013, I would say the playerbase for that game is quite young.
As for franchises, the first FF game came out in 1987 via the NES, I had an NES as an kid and do not really remember i t, many were into the Mario franchises, but the game was popular in Japan. The first Warcraft game dropped on pc in 1994, Orcs vs Humans. I did buy this game and play it quite a bit. So there is only a 7 year span of franchises so there is probably a great deal of overlap in terms of ages playing both games and the ages are probably similar.
As for franchise players yes they may be older than WOW. But there was a thread on here the other day about someone complaining about how old the WOW players were, based on lack of achievements earned such as ahead of the curve and a few others.
Oh so twitch determines age now? I have seen some videos of FFXIV streamers as they have all said the game has never really needed twitch because there is not a thriving esports scene in FFXIV. Not only that FFXIV is on playstation, WOW is not there are many younger players using playstation to game and not pcs/laptops anymore. In fact younger players would scoff at the fact WOW is only a pc game, as pc gaming is seen as old technology. If its not on Xbox or Playstation, this current young generation is not interested.
WOW has an esports scene that is streamed on Twitch and Youtube quite a bit, so it appears the players are young, but there are many old timers in WOW, why do you think classic brought many back? WOW dropped in 2004, 9 years before the current iteration of FFXIV. So many who could even get a computer back then would have been older as computers were not cheap in 2004.
To be honest, having seen the LoL types, then frankly I am quite glad they go to obscure games like that.
Citation Needed.
I’m casting heavy doubt on that statement, mainly because I know that you cannot possibly back it up with any evidence.
Pfft, he’s a talentless man who has a good line in pre-prepared rhetoric, but is in sore need of a voice coach, to better deliver his lines. He also really needs to work on his PR, the ‘Stunned Kitten’ look he has at everything instantly makes me think that what I am going to hear are the words of an idiot. Given some of his fans, this is not an opinion I will be easily dissuaded from…
Good question.
A man who has made a lot of money, by selling outrage to people, whose followers are anti-semites, racists, sexists and homophobes, oh, and probably just a few normal people along for the ride.
For some reason, kids today love him. Big deal. We used to think Rolf Harris was pretty cool when I was a kid…
“Some bloke in the pub told me that…” Is essentially what you stated. Who estimated it? Who said that? It can’t have been a third party website or a streamer, surely, as they don’t have the data?
-I- estimate that FFXIV has less subs than Real WoW. Does that make it true?
There we go… Clearly everyone who doesn’t slavishly follow the Asmongold narrative and that FF is better, is a Dev at Blizz. In which case, where is my paycheque? Come on, someone said it was so on the Internet, so where is it?
I once genuinely pulled a sickie at Work, so that I could keep playing FF7, that moment when you bust out of Shin-ra city… FFXIV just looks like they went with the weak later games, and friends who have tried it have all went “Nope, there is a hell of a lot of nope going on there, it was not Final Fantasy, just a weird mismatch, with a really crap playerbase”
Basically, if you are swayed by a man who makes money out of selling you your opinion, then you deserve your disappointment.
I’m still somehow enjoying WoW but a bit less, I think I’m really burn out from 9.0/9.0.5 because it has such a huge content draught, I hope new raid and dungeon will motivate me to keep playing, I really need something fresh.
I have just found him on youtube and twitch. I did not watch any of the videos so I can’t tell what he really talks about but he’s got from 50k - 1M visitors per video, and over 2M followers. That’s massive. I guess none of any streamer can take responsibility for what his followers are including the “names” you mentioned.
There are articles about it so I will trust them more than a random blizzard shill.
I don’t remember saying that, so you are the creator of that narrative. Feel free to grab your wallet and pay to yourself, since it’s all in your head.
i tried ffxiv and holy s*** leveling was the worst i have ever tried in a game your always to high level for the area you are in so you cant use your cool new spells and all you do is teleport around the map and do a boring dungeon once in a while and the ui is sooo bad
He just started his stream and is already at 65K. He will probably even break 200k viewers.
He also said that he is going to be playing it until Monday and will be hitting max level, and doing high end raiding and more. That guy is literally the best kind of advertising that any company can wish for. FFXIV will probably get a bare minimum of 1m new players today.
Depends what he determines as high end raiding. And if he gets boosted again. Sincerely doubt he would be able to beat Ultimates straight off the bat without investing a certain amount of time into the game as that is required for any game to succeed in it
