And do you believe that they do?
And how do you feel about them in World of Warcraft as of now?
And do you believe that they do?
And how do you feel about them in World of Warcraft as of now?
Generally speaking, yeah I think so.
I don’t think Blizzard have shifted much in terms of the balance between the goofy and whimsical side of WoW and the serious and mature side. I think The War Within has the same balance as Vanilla or TBC had, for example. The leveling revamp of Cataclysm would be an example of Blizzard leaning more toward the goofy and whimsical expression of WoW, but otherwise I think all other expansions are more or the less the same mix.
And I think that holds true for cosmetics and other visuals and gameplay elements as well.
I think the amount of freedom and customization players have today has gone steadily up over the years. And between the choice of a goofy appearance (beach shorts) or a serious one (knights armor), players are simply expressing themselves more freely within that spectrum of options. That’s probably what’s different. In early WoW I think players felt it was more important to look the part whereas today players are okay with looking like they stepped out of Fortnite. And I think that’s more reflective of how people approach online games today versus how Blizzard maintains Warcraft as a fantasy universe.
That would certainly be to much. Even with the option to turn of tmogs player sided
I think right now we are at the tipping point.
If it gets even more ridiculous it’s to much but as it is right now it’s ok.
Well that’s extremely subjective tho.
We have some good plate sets but we also have soooooo many that just look stupid.
And that isn’t even touching the topic that full plate like a tin can is extremely unpredictable in a fight.
You ever had one on? Some people can pull of some crazy level of mobility in them but that’s then mostly the lighter full plate variants.
For a prot that might be ok but a fury that spins and jumps? Not that good.
I generally like to put my warriors in a mix of heave duty leather and mail wit some strategic pieces of full plate.
But we also have to factor in that this is a a fantasy game.
Maybe full plate armor is much more flexible here.
And maybe the beach outfit is just a glamour.
It’s a pretty standard fantasy trope where you can glamour things to look different but they keep there functions just the same since they aren’t really changing.
There is that joke of a halfling wanting to have a glamour to look like a big barbarian and it ofcourse works but he still cant pick up the bottle of wine from the shelve since he isn’t actually that big now.
And like I said if it really destroys the immersion to much for some people then make a player side option
I don’t think so.
Whimsical items have always existed but you eventually removed them for the majority of your journey because transmog didn’t exist. And even when transmog was introduced, it was strictly limited to armor pieces fitting your class, “cosmetics” didn’t exist yet.
the problem with WoW,
they went through those scandals yano " women in bikini’s to fruit pictures" and whatever else
and then in the same breath they release Beach wear where we can wear bikinis
i mean, are we playing a war game or are we playing a political agenda, real world social and political problems SHOULD NEVER be in the game . period.
There are just too many “immersion-breaking” stuff out there to get worked up over. But the older I get, the less it bothers me.
The older we get, the more we realize that life is meaningless and nothing truly matters.
Yeah, but that’s like I said; it’s less to do with Blizzard pushing immersion-breaking stuff and more to do with Blizzard offering players more freedom to customize and choose their own appearances - and players taking advantage of that.
The immersion-breaking stuff has always been there.
I wouldn’t call them immersion breaking, but rather ‘non-WoW conforming’ to pick a nice modern term.
Some are less fitting in the WoW setting than others. I don’t mind things like your example ‘beach underwear’, or such.
I DO mind things like that Love Witch outfit or the Yeti Onesies for instance.
The first category can realistically be found ‘somewhere’ in the game; just maybe not ‘in battle or on an adventure’, but for instance there’s plenty of NPCs wearing beachwear all over Azeroth’s beaches and fake beaches (Undermine).
The second category is not realistically part of this world (except if you really want to stretch it, like for a costume party perhaps). I’m not a fan of this category in general.
While i think some of the items are a bit silly (The tracksuits, or the Murloc onesie), i don’t really spend much time paying attention to what mogs other players are using.
If people do what they’re supposed to do in group content, they can run around buck naked (Or however close to it the game allows people to get) for all i care.
Which is why they’re also problematic.
I didn’t mind them existing back when it wasn’t possible to use them as transmog. RP players could use them in the proper environment. Now though, they just roam around with those as their “armor”.
I enjoy them very much.
World is on your head.Use your head.Other people roleplay too.In pajamas.Comfy heroism
Cosmetics make me more play and enjoyed what my characters look good.
Since I like mog for cute, silly, cool and fits look.
Don’t like cute and goofy items at all. 100% out of place in this what is supposed to be a swords and sorcery game.
If you cared that much about immersion you would be on a RP realm tbh and not Kazak on all your chars.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
We might be minority, but we exist, beach underware, glasses, motorcycles. All of them break immersion imo.
Generally I don’t like going into battle in a wedding dress and high heels.
It’s why I have advocated for a toy that allows me to bypass the transmog of players. It doesn’t impact what they see or what others see; it only impacts what I see. And yet I was the bad guy when I suggested it.
