I was wondering why players won’t be able to choose the thing they like in Shadowlands?
For example, if I want to join Maldraxxus because of their aesthetics, story or whatver but I shouldn’t do it because Bastion’s abilities and buffs are stronger- how much will the game punish me if I do it anyway ?
The answer is: Too much. Why not just let people choose what they like the most instead of having that 1 necessary covenant for everyone that wants to somehow get the maximum out of their characters.
Isn’t it very boring if people just choose the covenant that has the strongest ability instead of letting them choose what they like the most? I feel like there should be choices that don’t punish you if you choose the thing that you weren’t supposed to choose.
Let people choose what they like the most instead of forcing some passive abilities on us that gives us only 1 correct choice.
Also we have a perfect example of how Blizzard will be able to balance covenants - Just look at how well they balanced corruptions in BfA. Do you really think that there will even be an attempt to balance covenants ?
Why do people just assume that the covenant abilities won’t get changed down the line (as Blizzard often does) to make them more equal. Plus Ion said they’re gonna be very situational so even if you pick Covenant X for whatever ability it will only be the best on certain bosses while Covenants Y ability is better for others.
And IF they nerf whatever Covenant everyone flocks to they’re gonna be stuck in some crap Covenant for an ability that isn’t better anymore.
I’m going to go with the Night Fae regardless of buffs/skills/whatever… It seems the most fun, despite the Kyrians very likely having the BiS skill for my main. Probably shooting myself in the foot and I realize that, but I’m fine with that, it’s a choice I make.
Take whichever one you want. Screw anyone who moans about your choice.
It’s your game. If someone wants to go with whichever covenant gives the best boost right out of the door. Good for them.
Remember, in the great big bad world of WoW, things always change.
I’ve got lots of alts, so for a few, I’ll pick something that I think fits with the character. For the others, I’ll play around see how things go.
I will join the vampires I dont really care about the new covenant abilities, I just use 3-4 buttons anyway. I cant handle 1 more ability. I always choose “passive” tallents to make my buttons less.
It’s a really good advice if someone is playing with a guild that doesnt care about top performance, or only does solo stuff, but when pug leaders are checking raider io scores for lower instances than 10, it’s very likely that they are going to check if the player has the best covenant ability/soulbind for m+. Same goes for raiding and rated pvp.
I know “it’s just alpha” but from what i saw, currently the covenant abilities won’t be a few irrelevant percentage away from each other. Not because of the tuning but because some of them are only singletarget which obviously won’t be the pick for m+ while others are aoe with extra buffs. Like how currently i wouldn’t be able to join the covenant i want for transmogs because it would severely punish me in m+.
As i said, i know its only alpha, but after Legion and BfA alpha and beta testing i don’t really believe that they are going to either change or properly balance the abilities.
I was simply saying any players who do min/max will have fun with regards to the actual covenant abilities and how they play out in mythic raiding/M+ & PvP.
Aesthetically I guess it depends on if blizzard will let us keep appearances even if we switch. (If we’re even able to!) if appearances are not allowed to be kept once leaving one particular cov. Well then…
Edit; forgive me I forget how hard it is to portray sarcasm over text. Don’t take ‘fun’ literally.
We don’t even know all abilities yet so mostly this is speculation.
You will only be punished if you let yourself be punished. You choose whether you play this game for yourself or for your team be it raiding, m+ or pvp. There is no punishment in making the correct choice for your goal in-game. If you choose to do high-level content, you choose to do what’s best for your team, not for you. If that’s not something you like doing, then reconsider the endgame you’re playing.
