How on earth am I supposed to join a group for raiding?

I have been playing Classic WotLK for a couple of months now, I have managed to get GearScore of 5.1K with my Retribution, I play on Gehennas Horde which is a huge server in EU.

Now I’m stuck trying to find a raid group, all I see is people spamming messages written only using acronyms that I don’t know what they mean.

I guess I can recognize the meaning of ICC, GDKP (to some extent) but I have no clue what all the other stuff means. And if I message any one am asked a million questions as if I was trying to apply for Harvard.

I guess my only hope is finding a guild? But this is easier said then done, I haven’t seen a single active guild recruiting people on trade channels.

At this point, the only pve content I can do is queueing up for Gammas, but after doing more than 100 they kinda lose the charm.

Any advice is highly appreciated!

Check this forum. Occasionally there are posts from WOTLK guilds recruiting. Scroll down because most are for SoD but I found at least one for Gehennas.

Thank you, I will keep an eye on that!

At this point in the game, you don’t basically. Especially on Gehennas, you either pay absurd amounts of gold for a GDKP to carry you or don’t pug raid at all.

Cata is just around the corner, forget raiding until level 85 and save your mental health.

Partially true, most of those runs do need people that are geared to get the job done if we’re talking about GDKP pugs.

I see enough 10M and 25M SR (soft reserve) pugs going on Gehennas, OP can probably easily get into a 10M ICC.

Yeah I was thinking about this, at this point most people are fully geared already so there are no new groups or guilds being formed. I’ll try to find some group for 10M, indeed I found that those usually have lower requirements.

First of all you are not even remotely decently geared if you Play for couple of months as you claim .

Just with gamma gear coupled with badge gear from "couple of months of playing " you would be like 5700+ .

That’s your problem - you put 0 effort into gearing.

Cool. How do you suggest I fix that, what does it mean to put effort into gearing? : )

edit: To clarify, I have checked some build guides for my spec and the majority of items are either raid drops or items that cost Emblems of Frost which take a while to get just from the Gamma dailies.

Well considering you have same gs as my third pure leech lock in ulduar maybe try playing the game? Get crafts, boes, farm icc rep for ring, do daily/weekly emblem quests/ rdf. My third lock Is like 6k gs rn and has only like 3 icc items. You can also get ulduar 252/toc 25 gear from vendor.

A good way to start is by looking at your pre-raid bis list if you’re interesting in getting good gear outside of raids. I don’t know at what gearscore level it will put you, but it should be a bit higher than 5.1k, which is not very high at this point, as some others already pointed out.

Quickly glancing over it, most items are fairly easy to get your hands on via Gamma dungeons. The only thing I can imagine for a new/returning player is that some of the BoE items that are listed might be a bit on the expensive side. But if you browse the emblem vendors, there are alternatives.

Go for the grind if you want to, however I just want to point out again that Cata is soon to be released and most of this gear will probably be quickly replaced. So it’s up to you if you wanna make the effort or not.

well that depends if he want to taste ICC or wait for cata

anyone determined can get to like 5.5k in a week by spammng gammas.

i did it myself 3 times - its more then doable if you put in effort into spamming gammas

yesterday i was boosting guildie in dungeons a bit and there are still very many people boosting their characters and doing dungeons.

there is a reason why spaming dungoens for badges was always very popular wow activity .

and it was a huge mistake that blizzard for years in retail was trying to remove this untill they returned vp and now crests in retail

if he puts effort this is actualy very good time to pug icc because very many guilds / pug members went to break till cata instead farming last few bis pieces so its super easy to join pugs.

but yeah - 5.1k is complete garbage score this late in ICC .

so put in some effort OP.

plus - i may be super naive - but i still have hope for some sort of wolk era realms with option to copy their your chars.

naive naive me - but gotta hope so that effort put into ICC wont be totaly gone

it would b collosal business mistake from blizz to not keep at least 1-2 wolk era servers with how many people buy boosts - and will continiue to buy them in future if they keep it runing.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! I found that indeed there were many gaps in my current gear and I realized that many of them can be fixed in relatively short-term by running a few Gammas plus by getting some items from AH. Hopefully that should give me enough GS to allow me to join at least a few raid runs before Cata comes out!

do VoA for tier sets, then run normal icc for emblems and some upgrades.
then you should be taken to icc 7/12 hc atleast
