When it doesn’t show in your spellbook and dragging it to your spellbar greys it out?
Not sure if it’s the problem you’re having, but since DF released (or maybe it was 10.1?) when I switch to Prot, Spellwarding automatically unlearns itself.
Try changing that node to Improved Ardent Defender and back, that gets it to show up again for me.
