How priest (healers) class is doing in m+ and raid?

I enjoy the class fantasy, especially the holy one.

  1. How holy is doing in raid? Resto druids seems stonger in terms of output
  2. How easy is to learn disc? I think mechanics have been improved but still you need to know all details about boss fights right?
  3. What do you think is community’s perception? Seems to be a bit that they love evoker druid(again)

Thanks
HAve not played it since 9.0.X (First phase of shadowlands)

Quite challenging. Compared to other healers.

  1. Holy is doing fine in Raids. Strong throughput, but not on the level of Druid and especially Evoker. They’re both getting nerfed and Holy is getting slightly buffed next reset, so they’ll be closer together. I have no trouble competing with the Evoker and Druids in my guild, but in some instances I can clearly tell that their potential in terms of healing exceeds mine. For example: On my last Mythic Terros kill, our Evoker and I both did ~97k HPS. For me, that’s a 93% parse on Warcraft Logs, for the Evoker it’s merely 67%.

  2. I’d argue Disc remains the most difficult healer to play. The spec has an extremely steep learning curve. You can’t just jump into a fight, react to what’s happening, and expect to be okay. You need to learn the timings prior, and even then it’ll probably take a bit of time to get it right.

  3. Community perception strongly favors Evoker and Druid in M+, less so in Raids. It seems many groups choose their DPS with the fact that Evoker has bloodlust/heroism in mind. Already at +20 I have some trouble getting invited because a lot of groups specifically search for Evoker or Druid. In Raids no one seems to care all that much, a mix of different healers is what people want.

Example: I’m 2500 rated with timed 19’s in both Tyrannical & Fortified SMBG.

I’ve been rejected from at least 25-30 20 SMBG groups this week.

I would say unless you have a bunch of friends to play with, go meta - it’ll make your life a lot easier.

If you’re used to Holy, I think you would have some trouble switching to Disc. I keep trying out Disc, thinking it sounds fun, but then it always takes a lot more work to keep people alive. Even leveling with dungeon healing at lv 50-60, it’s needing a lot more mana for me to keep a normal dungeon topped up, while Holy does it with ease.

Not necessarily representative of organized end-game content, but it’s definitely harder to respond to unplanned damage or bad groups as Disc.

I thinking to roll holy just for raids. Problem is that once u pass holy difficulty u are stuck again

Disc is hard to play. Because, you only can heal when you are “properly prepared for the incoming damage in the right time”. Which is like a 11-13 seconds of pre-casts that are made at the correct timing before the incoming damage. You have to

2xPurge the wicked + 8 RaptureShields + 1 Flashof Light + 2 Radiance + 1 Evangelism
(assuming you already have the additional penance bolts buff)

And only then, you can heal people by doing damage.

And damage… Even your damage rotation is “not simple”. You have to follow a strict rotation of

schism + lights wrath + shadow covenant + penance + thrust + mind blast + purge (or smite) + mind blast + smite + halo (or divine star)

and of course… you must pray that you dont get a boss mechanic on you during that period which would make you constantly run, or soak stuff or do anything that would interrupt your ramp rotation.

so… disc… is really complex. you have the hardest healer preperation and one of the hardest dps rotations at the same time.

meanwhile… a monk presses (or even clicks) revive and does more healing than you can in 1 second.

we had “spirit shell” before, which at least allowed our heals not to be “stolen”. now all other healers healing up so fast with 1-3 clicks where we are playing a piano and only healing in forms of HoTs… they are also stealing our heals too.

so… (sadface) disc is hard and not rewarding.

a wonderful change of “quality of life” could be like a small update on rapture

“rapture: removes the CD of PW:Shield and Makes you immune to incoming damages or interrupts for 20 seconds (only in PvE)”

with that, we could at least… ramp our heals with some consistency.

This had also been my experience on my journey to climb up to 2500.

I am not there yet, but without my friend, even people with less than 1000 io than me reject me because a meta healer applied, and why would they pick me when a meta healer with less gear and buttons than me performs just as well and have more utility?

:frowning:

HolyP is my fave spec but I am going shadow until the devs address Holy a bit.

Rapture granting you damage immunity would be really overpowered.

You can vastly improve disc ramp by making Radiance instant, which makes it usable on the move. With Rapture shields, instant PW:R and Penance being castable while moving, I can see discipline having way easier life in PvE.

Just move Ultimate Radiance PvP talent to our spec tree finaly.

This is the main problem: Disc is super complex to play, but doesn’t reward that complexity at all. Things like TE could easily be double or triple the current buff, and it’d still only just compete with resto and preserver without any of the utility / mobility of those classes.
