How t oDeal with UI

I wanted to try out retail, but I can’t handle the UI.

Everything is bad. From design perspective to user options.

I feel like when I played back in the day I didn’t use any addons and learned to pay default just because I got very irritated that when wow updated I had to update my addons like Xpearl. Looks good but dragging everything and moving around is annoying. So stayed with defaults.

But now defaults are well bad. Literraly bad as in they do overlap/scale/color. I cannot just hit default and play.

Some example hitting escape and seeing the red buttons make your eyes a bit waterry because the dark black color shadows on the red buttons and seems well bad.

I drag stuff around where to put what and see that you have to redrag everything because well new stuff will appear and will overlap/block the view/ or if you haven’t played at all you don’t know that say there is a dismount button from a vechile or special raid boss action and it will appear duing gameplay and you’ll need to redrag again.

Like it used to be hit default and play. Now hit default, play for a few mins and oh I just mounted what are these dragon bubbles where to put them there in the middle of the screen or what not. Back to setting up everything.

Now from technical point. I like stuff a bit bigger maybe becuase I’m older or because I liek the zoomed in feel, so I change the UI scale. It does wha tit supposed to do wrongly… It scaled everything while also messing everything up… If I had the button in position x and y now the button is in position a b, like drastically I get it if it’s smaller or bigger it might shift a bit but I’m scalling the entire screen it feel like you are making a triangle bigger it’s edge radius is also changing …

And thats not all if you scale up, your bars(stance bars) cannot be centered anymore, they either go too left or too right slightly…

Now Action bars. I though I was crazy the buttons on the left looked way smaller to me than the ones at the bottom. But when oppening the edit it says 100% on both . SO I tested it dragged the bars next to each other, they aren’t 100% the right ones are 120% and after making them the same size and then reducing them back to 100% they all are the same size.

The tooltips after scaling overlap the bars, after scalling UI warband most right character is behind the context menu.

You open talents or spellbook some stuff is like huge and yet the text at the bottom is extremely small.

I’m sorry it’s not that I don’t want to learn new things (all ho in this case I don’t I just want to play).

I literally feel that I’m developing styling something that already should be done. But the bare minimum in this case the default in my opinion is not functioning properly and it’s too drastic al of a inconvenience.

Big rant but I don’t think I want to get into this. I feel like there just is too much unpolished settings that I’ll have to keep quirking with. I don’t get it I play classic no addons and it’s all fine I played up to legion and it was all so fine I quit because I got a bit burned out from raiding but this, now it’s just idk I mean I need to click EDIT just to move the chat, while in classic I can simply unlock and drag and instantly see the result.

I can’t even expierence the game changes or spell/talent changes because the view is unpleasant. The window that is UI is a mess. I think it’s a big issue and it puts me off from playing retail.

Any of you feel the same ? I mean I play much of the stuff on defaults and never had problems. Am I not seeing something ?

I am sorry to hear that, but I can’t advise as I use my own customized UI for as long as TBC. I don’t ever remeber playing default since 2005 or so.

I’d get started, but I already did, and finished.

Some of these got fixed, most did not.

I use ELVUI over 10 years now so when change happens it is very little managing for me.
Becasue most of the stuff is there i just need new version of ELVUI.
I think you should embrace change it will make you adaptable person

The game’s complexity increased so much that the “default” options can no longer work because of a combination of 2 following reasons:

  • For a new player the information load needs to be small. They need to be shown as little information as possible to allow them to learn the game in small steps. If the game had all necessary information from the get go, new players would instantly quit from the steep learning curve
  • 2 experienced players will not agree on what information needs to be presented and how.

So Blizzard just has some very basic layout, some basic ways to modify it to one’s liking, and if that is still not sufficient they tell you to check addons.

You don’t play with the default UI.

It’s painfully inadequate.

I’ve been using elvui for ages by now.

Opinion will be split, and whilst some prefer the default UI and don’t like add-ons, I’ve always used add-ons like xpearl and bartender, etc. For the last couple of years I changed to ElvUI. It looks a little overwhelming at first, but it’s fairly intuitive and easy to tune, so I get everything where I want it, and the size I want it (except the big annoying spellbook). ElvUI seems robust, well maintained, and I haven’t experienced any problems during updates.

I don’t mind change when it’s done right. It’s a game I don’t want to develop the UI and then play. I want to play.

There’s a lot of information and not all of it will be needed for new or old players, for instance garrisons and class halls might be deleted. You can no longer experience them. Well class halls at least, since you can’t do missions for the leg weapons/ or followers.

But the problem isn’t it. Here’s how I feel:
I sit in the car and I need to use the wheel to drive and look through the window(UI).
There’s a lot of road signs{content) and laws(spells, things to do) and I will learn them do them.

The problem is the wheel doesn’t turn properly and only one wiper is working. I got into my car to drive where I want, not to take it for repairs every patch. This is how I feel. Like the bar is low too f low.
