How to beat a (good) rogue as a shadow priest?

Shadow Priest R13 here, rest of the gear is ok, I do a lot of pvp (BG and open world) and can fairly say that I know my class well (still learning though, as we all do).

Also when in open world I’m always prepared, pvp gear, pvp talents, potions, bandages, you name it.

So what is a good rogue ? (or at least, not a crap one).

After many encounters it’s kinda simple:

If a rogue doesn’t expect I’m gonna use my trinket to break his stun and then doesn’t instantly actually break my fear, which surprisingly happens a lot, then it’s a bad rogue.

Of course a good one won’t fall for that. He will stun me, wait for the trinket, break the fear, re-stun, nervously straft left-right (business as usual), finish me.

There is litterally nothing I can do.

Can’t even land a dot, cast homunculi, any pets trinket (Barov, etc), pet off-hand (Cornerstone Grimoire, etc) or magic dust.

The only thing that could eventually change the tide might be a blackout proc from Touch of Weakness and Shadowguard…maaaaaybe ?

I know at this level it’s all a matter of details, but even the best gear and trinkets and whatever else are kinda worthless when you can’t even move the whole fight.

If there is any experienced Shadow Priests, I could use some insights.

Who knows, maybe I can improve a bit from that.

PS: this topic has been posted during SOD Phase 5 (writing this for archiving)

In the open world ? Use trinket on the second stun and dot, he will blind you, at which point you pray that you are a dwarf, break the blind, use a LIP, put dots and do a mind blast. He should die from the dots most likely before you die after LIP ends.

If you are not a dwarf ? Probably gonna lose most of the Rogue encounters.

If its organized BGs, then enjoy the free win because lol who would take a Rogue xD

what good rogues? They dont need to be good to kill you at all. Backstabbing from… the front (they contradict even the name of the ability) or… ambush you while you are aware of them (lol again)

In the meanwhile, ferals still have to be behind…

Rogue kills priest (any kind of priest) no matter what runes or talents he runs, even with sinister strikes.

Folks, thanks for the enthusiasm, I’m sure talking about how rogues can be unbeatable is as fascinating as inaccurate, but none of this actually helps.

Let’s go back to the point:

Are you guys Shadow Priests players or have any experience with that class ?

If yes, I’ll try to be more specific:

If you are lone Shadow Priest, in OPEN WORLD (so no hommies coming to help like in BG), with an experienced rogue having the opener, waiting for you to waste your trinket, who knows you will then fear, what would you do to win ?

That is the only question asked here, I suggest sticking to this, please.

thanks

You already answered your own question in the OP tbh. You pray that you get a blackout proc from shadowguard/ToW. Some matchups are just hard counter and this is one of those cases. They have consistency to kill you with their toolkit and CDs up. You need RNG to kill them even if you have all of yours available too. Unless they are bad ofcourse but this post was about good rogues, and good rogues wont leave gaps in their CC.

Trinket into fap, or Living action potion the 2nd stun, but the outcome probably the same, Just blind restealth/vanish sap reset wait for fap to end, die in the same way you posted just without you using trinket this time.

So leaves you with the same option, you rely on RNG of some sort, kidney shot resist, blackout proc, him disconnecting x) otherwise its probably run back PoV

Maybe you’re right, I might have already covered everything doable against a rogue.

To be fair I’m not particulary mad about the good rogues. These are kinda interesting encounters when we got to play smarter and think about using consums that seem kinda useless for priests at first glance, but that can turn the tide.

So little details and RNG I guess…
