How to catch a cheater

Hello,

in the past week or so I keep noticing a lvl1 char endlessly camping the EU auction house spamming R3 Obsidian Seared Alloys. I have chars on both side so I was able to hop on to their server and report them and get them banned - comfirmation mail from Blizz came and said it was an actual cheater.

Needless to say, within an hour the guy was online on a brand new char, doing the same thing. So I reported again. Did this 4 times. Each time I had to wait multiple days until the character was removed. Now he’s on the 5th.

My questions:

  1. Cant Blizz see to which account the gold is being sent from these chars? Why does one have to chase every new account they make?

  2. His latest char is in Ogrimmar. I made 2 lvl1 chars and parked them at the 2 AHs Ogrimmar has. But I still cant see the guy. And you cant report botting unless you can click on the actual character. Right-clicking the friend list name only allows for ‘inappropriate name’…

You can report suspected cheaters with an email to Hacks@Blizzard.com so you don’t have to track them down ingame.

  1. Companies would never tell you if they’ve taken any action against someone you reported.

  2. There’s probably ways to launder gold so it can’t be traced.

I dont understand, What was he doing? selling items on the AH?

Blizzard does. Since a long while. As do other companies such as riot. They merely dont tell you who exactly and what kind of action.

They’re automated emails meant to encourage you to keep reporting.

So… they’re not telling you if they’ve taken any action against someone you reported?

You can easily check whether someone you reported got banned unless you mass report everyone and everything.

They tell you they have taken action. Just not what kind of action. Riot does the same. They wont tell you whether that player got silenced or banned or whatever.

Nope. Undercut or cancel/repost bot. Every 20-30 sec it posts 25-50 items. All day, never moves an inch, lvl1 char, full basic starter gear, etc. These arent directly proving anything, just a suspicion. But all of them and their auctions were removed from the game so my guesses should be more or less on point.

Rank 1 characters can be Bank alts selling stuff too
fyi
and undercutting AH sales can be done with Addons like TSM which is automated

my level 1 bank alt better not get reported because you think im cheating selling stuff with TSM / auctioneer

i hope this educates you about playing the market and how to min max on bag slots

tldr : level 1 Bank alt is meta

I admit i have a lil one char in bootybay just because its a nice area and nuteral was fun getting there

Problem is not with lvl 1. My bank alt is also lvl 1. Behaviour of the character is what we are talking about. And - as I stated above - 4 consecutive bans from blizz most likely prove me right. This was not a question.

I am trying to avoid having to chase this guy down from server to server. Thats my issue.

blizzard don’t tell you if they have banned them.
they just say " action has been taken "

spam reporting anyone will get them the same outcome, its an automated system that silences/ bans/ suspends

you can assume its a ban , but its probably just a silence

You will not be told what action happened just a thank you for your reports, you can surmise they were banned but you will never know.

In the long run that could count as harrasing a player if you keep reporting and they find no issue.

About 4 months ago, same thing was going on with R3 Fierce armor kits. (Only rank 3 items are quite suspicious in themselves. No one could afford the loss of not trying to sell your rank 2 stuff that is unavoidably generated when crafting for rank 3s. UNLESS you got them for free. So its probably farming botting and AH botting in a tandem.) I reported those too, and none of them came back online ever since. (Yes, I still have them on my friends list…)

ok… or they simple dont play anymore?

They did find an issue, all the characters I reported are now gone from the game. Not a single minute online ever since.

or they blocked you, or appear offline ?>

Yeah, all of them quit for some strange reason right after my reporting, and all of them decided to never come back. Together with the Fierce Armor Kit cases that must be something like 12 people. My mind is quite powerful when it comes to influencing others’ behaviour… or!
