How to counter as a caster in arena?

Hey I’m quite a new PVP player, mostly PVE player. I played here and there to max 1k7 arena but I feel like I’m stuck to my current rating in solo at 1k6 against some comp including: DH/DK/War.

I’m playing a shadow priest, I feel very strong against every other comp but against these 3 I do struggle a lot, do you guys have any tips to improve because I feel like I can’t go higher rating if one of these 3 classes are against me.

Thanks a lot !

practice and experience. Its rough.

Don’t forget to fake cast. Use defensive cooldowns only when they use offensives. When they CC your healer, you can heal. I don’t play caster, but i find those strats annoying to play against. So i guess that could work.

Positioning is the single most important thing to focus on as any caster being trained by a/multiple melee.

Aim to constantly be pulling them away from their healer and around pillars etc. Even if you yourself aren’t able to get any damage out while doing so, melee with actual situational awareness may choose to back off depending on the game state, and those without will likely follow you out of LoS of their healer, making them easy targets.

An important caveat to this is of course to always keep your healer’s position in mind. If you’re playing on Nagrand against a DH for example and you know that Chaos Nova is available, you don’t want to kite to the same pillar that your healer is playing on lest you open yourselves up to a double stun.

Other than that, a Shadow Priest specific tip (listen to people who are actually playing Shadow rn over me lmao) may be to ensure that you’re being aggressive with your dispel usage, both Purge and MD. The mana bar is a resource to be used and keeping targets clean of magical effects, as well as your healer out of any magical CC that you can is likely going to be more useful than attempting to off-heal in a chaotic environment like SoloQ.

You want to stay behind a pillar and line of sight enemy healer. This way the melees will be out of line of sight as well. This will force enemy healer to come closer so you can cc him.
You also want to minmax your defensives and dont overlap with the ones from your healer. If you rotate everything properly you should live.
You dont want to waste damnation and shadow crash. You cant really cast vs melees and you need to have high uptime on your dots (enemy healer will dispel them all the time). Always try to apply through cast when you can actaully cast, else use the instants. Shadow crash on stacked melees etc. And keep refreshing dots.
With the amount of kicks and stuns the melees have you wont be able to cast a lot anyway and faking isnt too reliable. You fake 2 spells and there is still a stun, a ground and a kick from enemy rsham and then the melees get their kicks back already, often its just pointless.

Oh and also play catharsis vs melees that sit on you. It will do a lot of dmg.

Thanks for all the tips I’ll try to use that as much as possible on my future games, I hope for the best!
I don’t use pillars as much as I should this might indeed change the course of the game and LoS too…!

Thanks for all !
