Since my character (priest with 360, cant select her cause the new forum is weird) is still in early gear progression and i slowly start to get more and more into dungeons i was wondering ow do you guys estimate which key levels you are able to run and which are beyond your output where you would wipe the group?
Im asking cause i would feel really bad for not being able to keep my group alive and especially this week cause its grievous. I would think of me having a good knowledge of my class and spec but half of the healing comes from skill yes but the other half from gear and my gear sucks.
My curent highest key is a 6 shrine of the storm but im pretty sure that doing a 10 or even a 8 dungeon with 360 is waaaaay to much to heal for me but to come back to the question i could really need some advice how to get more confident with my ability as a healer and how to figure out whats possible and what not.
Sorry for the long post imagine a potato being here
As a healer it’s often quite hard to tell, because the amount of healing you need to do depends entirely on the group. If the groups knows the mechanics, can avoid unnecesary damage and use their interrupts correctly, it’s a breeze. If not…it’s hell on earth!
Affixes are also important to consider. Some weeks a lot harder on the healers than others.
Well you could do any key at any level.
I’ve seen a 328 paladin heal AD+11 lol.
I heal + 8 on my monk at 355, currently can’t push higher than that times but we get the dungeon done.
It also depends on if you want to do it timed, how well the group knows the encounters, how patient they all with wipes.
Healing is important but how well the group can make your job easier by knowing when to move, what to prioritise all increases the chance of success :).
So back to my 355 healer, I can confidently say healing is fine, just lack the dps to get past it in time, always 2 mins out, so you should be fine! all in all just try it and don’t get too upset if you fail, all part of the fun !!
It totaly depends on affix. Tyrannical grevious is very bad for a mid level healer this week. For example raging volcanic (first affix does not matter with these two) is easy to heal compared to tyran grev. You can do +10 rage volcanic if you have good healer azerite gear. Teeming fortified necro or skittish can be a nightmare.
Your comfortable zone is up to+6. Up to 9 depends on 3rd affix.
I manage to do ~30k+ HPS on almost any fight at my ilvl this week on a +16 or so. I can’t manage to keep people up no matter what, heals are going where they should be.
As a healer, you’re totally dependent on your team’s interrupts / handling mechanics, there’s only so much you can do before you go oom.
But sometimes you make grave mistakes, which, if you learned from, it’s good. For example, I should’ve taken Inner Peace on the last boss of Siege in both the +17 and 16, Tranq at the beginning after letting my team peak somewhat low, Innervate and then have my tranq back up for the end of the second platform so that no one dies. Unfortunately I didn’t go IP and that costed us the boss. Ok, that and the 3x 11k overall DPS.
Does that mean I’m a bad player? Again, it depends, I should’ve went the safer route but assumed we won’t be taking as much damage, but there are way too many factors: the debuff that would be best dispelled instantly so it doesn’t pop Grievous, the well timed Ironbarks, the focus on tentacles, etc.
As someone who spams +10’s, i estimate it by looking at the loot, if the loot is 10 itemlevels higher than my overall itemlevel then its good, but higher than that and you might get some troubles, from a casual perspective ofc
Ability wise; you should check your passives and interactions between your skills and talents. For example druid guides recommenda a talent row , when i used them 2 months ago, people drop dead, wtf is cultivation , it is a very weak passive healing compared to other talent in row which is %200 increase to my next heal.
My point is you should check class guides your spell interactions, but consider that guides are mostly for raiding, not for dungeons. Find your own comfortable talent and azerite selection.
Use weak auras for your passive temporary buffs (10-25 sec buffs) to use your healing spells more effectively
Best I did was something like +6 or so, but it’s because usually i accept anyone into my team, even people who…don’t seem to be that good, and generally don’t know how to work around certain mechanics, so I have to be healing extra most of the time.
(I’m a 359 ilvl Priest)
Exceedingly hard to get a real estimate here, this late in the expansion there’s a lot of alts there trying to gear up FAST, but without the real class knowledge or gear.
Very affix dependant too, some weeks are horrible for some tank/healer combos, others aren’t.
Ideally you want a tank around your gear level who’ll push keys with you. Getting dpsers to join in is as easy as it gets, really…
Only one time where i found myself not being able to outheal any dungeon was a Temple of Sethraliss +16 key with grievous and tyrannical at the 3rd boss but other than that it depends on the group and at the tank.
Really a 50/50 thing for healers. As if your group stands in everything, you will struggle. But not every healer is up to par based on which affixes it is. I know disc priests I speak with were screaming inside over grievous so.
