How to fix the mount problem

Have the water-strider run at 80% on lands.

(note: this speed fix could be done for lots of other mounts too, just to add a light incentive to use lore-consistency mounts. Goats could run at 120% in mountains but 80% in plains, frogs, eels and turtles could swim at 120% underwater but 80% on land, camels could run faster in deserts but slower in snowy areas, fel-touched mounts could run faster on Argus, Alliance/Horde mounts could run faster in area controlled by their own faction etc.)

not the worst idea i’ve heard

With Blizzard changing how things work regarding mounts I think some mounts should remain unique, otherwise what’s the point?

I think this would probably be too much trouble for them. Going through all mounts and tweaking their speed per type of area. It would also require the game engine to tag areas as a type or another. Which it probably doesn’t at the moment.

The simple solution is to tweak the system they are building right now. Make equipment slots per mount instead of per character and people can still have their water walking strider along with a different mount for dazing and a parachute mount for flying.

The Strider is easy to do, they are already making some unique and the equipment slot is not applicable to those mounts.
So adding another to do that and maintain it’s unique status isn’t difficult.

They can then still proceed with this entire equipment slot thing while allowing some mounts to remain unique.

The herbalism mount is unique because collecting herbs is not an ability you can give your mounts. To let the water strider keep it’s feature would be to make the water walking feature redundant. They might as well not put water walking as an equipment ability at all, since people would opt for antidaze or parachute.

I would have no problem with this system at all if it was per mount. Sure, you would have to equip your water strider with the boots. But that would be just once, so no problem for me.

In fact I would like to see collecting herbs as an option too, so people didn’t have to be stuck with the same ugly mount for herbalism. I don’t value certain mounts being special. For me it would make much more sense to choose which mount I want to use with a certain ability.

So basically I’m gonna sit on Invincible for the remaining period of wow life…sounds like a grand plan of stupid if you ask me.

I’ll basically equip water walking and forget the feature even exists.

Striders are ugly as hell, now the players will have a more choice about what mount they want to make into the water walking one and will not be forced to have it only on the model which Blizz determined for them.

Great so does that mean I can have crusader strike have the animation of fireball? because I feel like I’m having that visual thrown at me because blizzard decided it to be so.

Seeing a yakk run across water…isn’t going to go down to well, I get it that it’s a fantasy game and that some things will naturally be bizarre but all mounts running on water…is simply stupid design.
Yes the Strider isn’t pretty but at least it looks like it can and should run on water.

As I said in some other threads by that logic a lot of the current mounts which can fly shouldn’t be flying to and yet they still do, so we can see in the game flying moose, foxes, pigs etc up in the air….

And comparing class abilities to the mounts is like comparing the apples to oranges, they are totally different things in my POV, because the class abilities are actually something that very much need to make a sense to fit into the fantasy of the classes that people play in the game, and when they are designed the devs usually follow the strict specific design with which they were implemented from the time of the D&D games and other first titles of the genre and most other RPG-s. The people aren’t expecting when they role a crusader/paladin in those types of games for it to use the abilities of the casters and to wear the light gear obviously.

But even than there are games which deviate at this time from that concept like FF MMO in which you play a char which is not determined by your class and in which you can mix abilities of various different classes.

But we will also lose choice, because now you can have water walking and antidazing, if you buy or craft the barding. When they introduce this system I bet they will remove all the crafted riding items we have now. That means the barding and the stirrups. I would be surprised if they were kept, since they are for riding and profession made. Too much overlap.

there is a herbalism mount ? How does it look like ? How can u get one ?

You can craft it with engineering or buy it from the AH. There’s a similar mount that you get for collecting 300 toys.

As an alternative you could use the following item:

Same effect on a 2 hour timer.

Ty so much :hugs:

Sky golem doesn’t cost anymore as much as it used back in the past, now you can get it from the AH for around 40 k gold.

Ins’t that the problem though? Blizzard always goes for easy “fix” instead of thinking the whole “mount problem” all together.
They have never introduced as many mounts as since legion, and still mounts are just different models and are boring as hell. They have no efficiency, they just take you from A to B.
Lately mounts only been numbers to me. I pick one of the latest because the models are more details than old ones, and that’s about it.
The mammoth has almost become obsolete since the vendor doesn’t sell anything that interesting anymore. Your’e just good with the yak, the AH mount, and you can stick to a flying mount even grounded.
They gave the Golem because people were winning that druid could pick up flower in shapeshifted form.
So yeah…

We had all mounts running on water since forever. I almost never use my water strider.

I would rather like different mounts for different terrains. However I am mostly against taking things AWAY rather than just improving.

I think the equipment thing is fine but they should have left the water strider to water stride. It would be like making all mounts able to fly with equipment but flying mounts would need it too. It would be ridiculous, wouldn’t it?

But why stop there?! May as well add a hunger gauge, reducing your stats if you didn’t feed your character otherwise no-function food and drink every few hours. And a rest gauge, forcing you to type /sit or /sleep at a campfire for a few minutes per hour of combat or you’ll get stunned at random due to blackouts. Also, should have to equip transmog that looks warm and comfy for snow zones, or hypothermia will be the end of you. Meanwhile the desert should require you to use sunscreen lotion and you need to drink water every 10 minutes (hello BDO).

The opportunities for arbitrary inconvenience are endless!

Could you define the “problem”?

Didn’t know there was one.
