I’m a new crafter and I feel very demotivated. I want to sell stuff so I can make gold but I can’t sell stuff because I need the good stuff to be able to sell it. To make the good stuff, I need skill, to gain skill I need to spec into it and that’s done using knowledge points.
Now you can easily get like 60 knowledge points by collecting:
The one time quest and buy a book
Buy the book from the spider lands
Collect the chests around the world (like 8)
Then you can also get some gear to get more skill.
Next you enter the gameplay loop:
Buy the thing that gives you 1 knowledge each week
You gain more knowledge by crafting a new recepy for the first time.
You gain knowledge by doing crafting orders
which is very depressing to me because
If your profession has like 120 total knowledge, that doesn’t move anything
That’s limited and even though I have the gold, overall expensive. Also doesn’t move much considering you need a lot.
There are three types here:
Public: Why would anyone in their right mind send an order to a stranger when he can’t fix the quality and has to rely on human decency? No one of course. Result: There are literally zero crafting orders. Never saw a single one.
Private: If you didn’t spec the knowledge into one specific item such that you got the best quality there, there’s no reason on making a private order. Other than bop stuff which, at least for me, ther isn’t much.
NPC: There are 4 orders, none of them are doable atm. You need some random drop from some dungeon/raid.
so you see, crafting orders aren’t the way to go either.
So now I’m sitting here, having put all the work in there and I have no way of proceeding other than asking people to please send me private orders to make them supbar stuff. Which no one wants.
Maybe there will be some weekly quest, so maybe in like 1 month I can also do that.
No idea, this system just seems so miserable to me. I might not understand something but I talked to so many people that I kinda doubt that.
Crafting, at least the thing I did, is just such a bad experience.
So please, please tell me what I don’t see. How can I grind knowledge?
Edit: ofc there’s the equipment you can buy to gain some skill.
Edit: Quote from goblin discord “repo our renya, that youngster has a foul mouth” - like wtf Blizzard.
It’s the same system as in DF, just craft and gain skill points as you go. You can buy weekly treatise’s from inscription crafters via work orders and right now many scribes are happy to make them for just the mats because they get skill points for each craft.
You really, really don’t need to rush and be realm first!! at your profession, this expansion will be here for 1.5-2 years
I’m someone who reads quests and takes it slow but that’s not comeptitive. Crafting is competitive and there is no point (other than RP) to do it. So yes, you have to just go as hard as you can. It’s the fun in it. I wanna throw a million gold at it and see if my speculation will break me or not.
Turns out, the new system is just not for me because it’s extremely time gated, which means I barely have control over my progress.
The treaties I mentioned, doesn’t help you anything getting 1 KP per week.
So I’m not a crafter. At all. I still hope I don’t see something though.
Edit: I just can’t get over it how bad it is. How can a casual player even make any progress in this systme.
Well, I’m already well on with inscription and got all the recipes from the trainer and the most currently useful ones learned from crafting and I barely put effort in.
I’m max skill in herbalism just from herbing and my skill tree is as it should be for day 5 of a new expansion, I will have mounted herbing by tomorrow with reset.
You just need to take a deep breath and not stress about it.
The 100/100 is easy. Buying all recepies is easy. Doesn’t help me if I can’t sell anything or get crafting orders. I am literally stuck. How is that a good system?
You say it yourself “My skill tree is as it should be”. That’s min-maxing the crap out of it. And if you make a mistake, you are stuck.
I figured the tree doesn’t matter that much because I can just get more KP but it seems I literally can’t.
This whole “be extremely specific in something and then get broader” doesn’t appeal to me. I liked it when I could just throw 500k into it, learn everything and just try to figure out what’s the hot sihtatm. Now you just have to have 10 more chars, one per specialization because it’s time gated.
Just doesn’t compute for me. Props to the fantasy part though. That’s nice.
I just don’t get why they don’t allow me to max out at least one specialization by just either throwing gold at it or time. Imagine you had a time-gated equipment tree you can’t reset, sounds bad, is bad.
This is the most frustrating thing I’ve experienced since Wow’s launch, it’s just baffling to me. ^^
When you open the crafting window, do you see the golden/bronze gem? if you hover over that it has a tooltip and each time you craft you can click it and it boosts your craft quality from bronze - silver, silver - gold, gold - diamond, diamond - bronze. So right now you can make at least silver quality stuff, although it does deplete and needs you to craft more to recharge it.
The more you craft the better quality you will make until eventually you will always make top quality, even if you don’t max out the skill tree.
In DF I never quite fully maxxed out my tree but I did make top quality crafts, did regular crafting orders and made a gold by being reliable.
You just need patience and to remember the xpac has been out officially for less than 24 hrs and everyone is in the same boat.
I don’t wanna depend on concentration. I wanna creat siht tons of stuff with big numbers. That’s fun.
“It is timegated, btw why rushing it?” because why do it if you don’t do it right and doing it right is min maxing the siht out of it and shuffling professions apparently because the system sucks and you have to do those things.
I don’t rush questing and lore stuff because there’s literally no point. Theres no competition but when there is competition, it’s just not in my nature.
Unless I play classic hardcore or something like that but in retail crafting: I just wanna go nuts and apparently I can’ do that right now unless I play this whole “meta game” around it.
So I wait and observe until I see a niche I can attack like in DF where I don’t need all that stuff.
btw it’s also just very bad for the casual player. People ask themselves how they can get more KP and how they can get more of that blue currency. Answer: Shuffle profession but that’s expremely expensive, people spend 100k for 1 KP, buy recepies and stuff for 10s of thousands of gold just to get 5 of that currency to buy the books to get 10 KP or to get the extra gear needed for the best things.
All of them will dominate the market and it’s just a big split between sweaty people and normal people.
It just makes 0 sense. Their change just played into the hands of the hardcore players and now the normal player is stuck having 0 progression.
Exception are gathering profs. For some reason, you can grind the crap out of them.
Have fun with that… meanwhile the rest of us will actually have fun in this video game, make a little bit of extra gold and not be mad/sad/whiny about it on the forums
You can minmax within boundaries of concentration and focus on one or few items, they made it this way so noone can bruteforce it with lots of gold.
You just seem too impatient for long term profession comitment such as wow.
lol you realize that the thing they did literally was an elitist buff?
It took the elitist goblins like 2 days and a few millions only to get fully capped and corner max quality markets.
People making gold cap after gold cap each day. This wasn’t a buff for the people.
But fine with me, now that I realize what’s going on I know I can just join them. Seems to be fun because it’s very degen.
Also: I have lots of fun, most fun I get is from lore and just questing in a slow pace and discovering the world but I also like to just throw all my money into one thing and either go broke or get richer.
