How to heal 2v2 resto shaman

So I recently started playing 2v2 with a dh in 2s.
I am a terrible healer because I never played heal in pvp except disc to 1.8k way back in the days.
I am not the best resto in pve either because well never really liked it. Was always enhance but since it is pointless to play enhance in 2s and I don’t want to spend month farming echoes again on another class, I gave resto shamy a go.

Games were “meh” at best. We won more than we lost and some games we lost just because I underestimated dmg and dropped from 100% to 0% in 3 seconds, well that is experience.

Now the problem I have is how do I actually heal? At some point we are just both passively dropping and dropping due to damp. My casted heals do like 40k, so I avoid it mostly.
Vita conduit is great in the beginning but later will just keep both of us at 30% and make my spirit link also unusable.
We had some games again assa/druid and dh/druid and we were just slowly dying by damp (like 60%+). Enemy team kind of had full health at the end while I was running around with 30% and cannot top ourselves off anymore.

At the end the board showed I had more heal and we had about equal dmg.

How do you top someone off as resto shaman if you ascendence is on cd?

Gear is still improving but should be the main factor here i guess.
Ingame I got 41% vers and some more mastery, no idea why my armory shows my pvp combat vers.
I will get more vers corruptions in 4 weeks when I have more echoes LOL (great system btw)

Some tips would be appreciated.

Shamy struggle really fast to heal a target in dampening, my mate all the time goes oom so fast but it’s the class itself.

But I guess with a dh you should be able to keep your mana way later in the game except if he use blur randomly.

you dont run vitality conduct in 2s in major

Anyone who wishes to learn PvP and master a class is best not to play with DH’s. Doing so is basically playing pve. You try to keep your DH and yourself alive long enough for the DH to pve the enemy down without much skill involved.

Next, like mentioned above, vitality conduit is probably not your best choice for arena. Resto shaman is also better at avoiding damage than trying to heal through it. Use your ghost wolf a lot, with slow/root totems to help you escape better. Don’t forget your mastery greatly boosts your healing when healing lower health targets. Considering dampening makes you play at lower health more often, Shaman is actually in an advantage there. Naturally, when your partner is dropping health more than you can heal it up, he needs to cc their dps and make a run for it. Get behind a pillar and get back some health and cooldowns.

Final, offense is often the best defense in arena. Forcing the enemy to play defensive and use their cooldowns reduces their damage output, making it easier for you to heal your partner, get more cc off and gain some ground. Predicting when to play offensive and when to play defensive is a big part of pvp, and is something you will learn over time.

rsham is worst healer in 2s does nothing and if you cast you just get gone on and die

Is that why RSham/DH is the best 2s comp?

I was playing resto in 2s at around 1850, then switched to enh and dropped to 1600 in a few hours so defo stick with resto.

Some tips:
1- you need good communication with your partner, they need to know when they have to turtle to help you. Typically Dh are bad at this as they are used to just running in and doing dmg.

2- conflict major and vitality minor is typically best choice for 2v2.

3- pack spirit x 2 minimum but ideally x 3 will make you tanky, you shouldnt have to heal yourself much with this.

4- resto shaman struggle to keep partners alive, rotate cooldowns carefully so you always have something up your sleeve. Make sure partner stays in earthen totem etc.

5- play aggressively, purge, hex, cap totem, sheer etc, any chamce you get to make life harder for the enemy use it.

6- the neck essence that increases the power of your healing surge is a must.

Ultimately i believe resto shaman are one of the weakest healers for 2v2, doesnt mean you cant win but you have to try twice as hard as other healers

Resto shaman is only bad without a DH, but RSham/DH is the best or second best comp in 2s right now

because DH covers rsham’s main weakness which is:

more like anything with dh is the best comp
resto is only good at doing nothing and keeping his heal/mana full
dh’s sustain allows him to stay full hp with just shaman’s hot
against agressive comps like rogue disc u insta lose
last season i got 2.3k with trash gear easily now im getting gushed and gmae is over its unhealable and cba farming thats why i quit retail

Rsham/DH is the best DH comp, just play with a DH for free 2.6k rating

if it was free I would be glad by now, right?

Good advise, thanks. It works kind of ok if they focus my partner but if they focus me I cannot heal my partner back up which causes struggle.

Actually there wasn’t a single game I went oom because at this level (2k mmr) the dhs seem to be not very good at mana burning.

I also hardly go oom because I cannot cast very much (partly due to positioning as well I guess since my partner often just runs to the other side of the world)

Usually works better if the just focus me as I can heal my self better and take a lot less dmg thanks to ghost wolf, spirit pack and high vers.
I struggle if they somewhat are cleaving us and my heals are really doing nothing.
My pala crits for 250k flash and my shamy for 100k - 150k (pve comparison…) now with damp and ms it heals for like 50k or less while gushing ticks for 25k :expressionless:

I only quickly die to a very good assa / disc. They pretty much killed me in the opener… 1 kidney was enough to die, I thought I cannot trinket it because I will end up in 5min cc chain but well in that case I just flopped in a 6s stun. good stuff you can dispel ghost wolf hehe

kind of feels that well yes. I feel only good if I sit in ghost wolf and run around healing with some gimmicks and avoid hard casting as much as possible.
As soon as I need to start casting we seem to lose which tends to be above 50% damp at least

it certainly is or at least was a good comp, not quite sure if it still is very good with the corruption vendor. Compared to the top resto sh I am missing also about 20% vers.

Well I don’t even like to play resto shaman but I cannot switch because enh is garbage and no time to gear for another 4 month :frowning:
I wouldn’t say it is pve because most our kills we still got with at least a small cc chain instead of raw pressure.
Because honestly, all the comps that we meet have the same raw pve rota pressure with some comps having a little more devastating cc.

Assa rogue does the same insane dmg as dh, difference is that he has access to more instant cc and allows the healer to be more offensive.

Partly true, but which comp (except dbl dps) is not like this in 2s at the moment?
I mean there is not a single heal/dps comp that kills you by great outplay or cc chains but due to pressure by dps and damp over time (sure some ccs increase the pressure obviously)
They are naturally playing on higher rating because their team work and cd management should be a lot better than mine so they can create more pressure to put you on the back foot which is hard to recover from
best example would be destro which is also just a 3 button spec rotating chaos bolt fear and root on dr and blast till you randomly die thanks to fear pathing.

I will practice more, 40 games as resto shamy is not exactly much so thanks for all the advice

You stack pack spirit and sit in ghost wolf for 90% of the game

I’m not joking

Yea DH/rshaman works cos triple pack spirit + DH leech/blur allows you to both live long enough to drain the healer’s mana assuming the DH can mana rift properly.

I try to beat it by cleaving between the two and doing goes on both til one is more favourable than the other :S

You cannot get Glad in 2vs2. DH/Resto is THE best comp in 2vs2 mike it or not, and only a couple other comps are close in terms of powerand may put up a fight with decent chances of winning, you stomp everything else.

That’s typically when your DH needs to help you. They blow everything ? He can Darkness and you can’t die anymore. The Rogue pops stuff ? He can incap him instead of keeping EVERY CC to manaburn on CD. If he delays one burn to keep you alive… worth it isn’t it ? But hey, 2k mmr DHs … you know …

No. DHs always, always top the meters. Assa has a MS though so the damage is harder to heal. Luckily as Shaman you can Ghost Wolf and drop a slow totem, and kite the Rogue around a pillar and heal up with casts only after the MS dropped. That’s how I feel most shamans were surviving when I bothered playing 2s before dropping everything to farm echoes back when the vendor was introduced. Gushing won’t proc if he can’t touch you, it cannot proc off DoTs.
