How to improve as Fury Warrior

Hey guys, noob duo of fury warrior and mistweaver monk struggle to become at least somehow competent players. Nothing special since we are playing for like 9-10 days, and sometimes I even realize how we’ve been outplayed, but still I have a lot of unclear things for me.

1 - I’m usually dealing way less damage by the end of the game than the enemy’s DD, even when we are winning. I can’t get why - I use all my offensive cooldowns, try to burst when enemy safe CD’s are down, and constantly stay on my target. But still, I’m like 30% behind in the best case.

2 - Since I don’t deal enough damage, double DD comps are very dangerous for us, especially if they focus my healer. He can’t do anything against 2 DD and I just feeling like there is nothing I can do due to my lack of CC abilities. Also after 151 matches played we’ve seen only 2 monk healers. Why are they unpopular? Are they worse than other healers? For example resto druid deal a ton of damage if he has this opportunity, and hpal is very hard to kill. Or is it just l2p issue, and fury with mist-monk good comp?

3 - I’ve heard that there is something like scaling system working on the arena. Since sometimes we win against players with 350-500k hp, and losing against ppl with 120-150k (what a shame ikr), it seems to be true. So, is it? How it actually works? Only raw damage based on ilvl difference?

4 - About secondaries - guides say that I should prioritize haste>mastery>versatile, is this right? What value of haste I should aim for?

5 - I got my first weapon after conquest cap and still didn’t get anything better. Any way to get a new one through PVP? I tried raid finder, completed all what i could, and the only thing that I got - damned TOY. I tried to find a group for Mystic, but no one needs undergeared DD. So it seems that next weapon I can get only via conquest cap again, and I bet it will have wrong stats (and I need 2 weapons, duh).

6 - Can you give any general advices and tips regarding fury on the arena? I watched a ton of videos, wrote macro, adjusted key binds, and still have no idea what I do wrong. People on YT just sit on their target till it dies, giving occasional CC on focus.

I guess that’s it. Sorry for the grammar and possible typos, thanks in advance.

Hey Mifflin,

i suggest you check some PvP guides on Youtube or even some Twitch streams (there’s a very good NA fury warrior streaming, she does great and helps people a lot comments)

you are correct about scaling, it does apply to some extent but at the end of the day gear does have a major impact in arena pvp specially trinkets.

my advise is to keep practecing, never give up and specially keep playing with your friend, synergy is really important for success and check some guides like i meantioned, another good source is IcyVeins, easy to follow and detail everything from talents to traits and what not, give it a try!

best of luck and remember to enjoy and learn even if you lose

I wouldn’t recommend playing Fury in arena in general right now, it’s not that good.

Regardless of what spec you play though, your ilvl is very low. I have a 440 warrior and a 415 warrior and when I play the 415 one I feel genuinely useless.
Unfortunately all you can really do is spam m+ or heroic eternal palace to gear as gearing from arena is way too inconsistent.

If you are set on playing fury instead of arms though…
I see you’re using Cold steel hot blood traits on 2/3 of your bits of gear, while it’s the best trait in pve I’m fairly confident in saying that it’s very weak for pvp because it’s effectiveness scales with your crit strike and crit is the lowest prio stat as fury in pvp (unlike pve where it is first prio).
Won’t pretend like I know what the best possible traits are but i’d guess 1x unbridled ferocity, 1x Reckless flurry and then probably as many simmering rage/pulverizing blows traits as possible

As for stats I think 20% haste is probably fine and then between versa and mastery, mastery is going to give you slightly more damage however the defensive value of versa is pretty huge in pvp and if you can push 15-20% versa your healers will appreciate it

don’t take what I’ve wrote to be set in stone though, more like a rough guideline from what I’ve seen/what makes sense

Thanks for your reply this is really makes sense. I started with Arms, but there were situations when i was 1v1 after my heal and one of enemies died, and i felt completely helpless since arms dont have much def CD and healing. After switching to fury it felt really better, but yes, it seems that arms is much more versitile and MS DOES impact the game.
What about arms warrior? Same 20% haste first, then vers\crit or mastery for dot damage?
About gear - i resigned that i’ll have to grind stupid PvE content, it seems that i’m gonna start to master prot warrior tonight.

Unfortunately yep as you have noticed, arms is one of the worst specs when you’re solo, been like that for a while now and you’re at a disadvantage in 1v1 vs almost anyone you fight.

Having said that, it’s still strong in arena and yes 20% haste is about right and then you want to primarily stack versa. Crit/mastery are both ehh, if you get a little bit of each it’s fine but you want to aim for haste/versa gear if possible

You should connect to the warrior discord and go for the PvP channel. Lots of high ranking warriors that can help you there.
