Hello,
‘‘I am not talking about GMs’’
First of all, I am from the Middle East and I have a youtube channel for more than 1 year. My youtube channel Contains all things about wow, such as raids guide, mounts and ‘‘cinematic reaction’’. 4 days ago, I uploaded a video about the new cinematic ‘‘Crossroads’’. The video was about my reaction and I translated the video from English to the Arabic language because some Arabic players asked me to do so. There was no copyright on my video. After 2 days, a blizzard employee made some comments on my video. He was telling me to remove that video and to stop translate World of Warcraft cinematics. In addition, he puts the Blizzard ME channel links. However, today I got a copyright strike on my youtube channel.
After checking the copyright strike details, I found under ‘‘claimant’’ his E-mail {Blizzard Entertainment ****** @blizzard.com}.
After that, I searched on google. I found his page in ‘‘linked in’’. He works with Blizzard. I will not tell his name or nationality but he is an Arabic man which makes me feel bad.
I am not sure why he did that
is it because of the translation?
does blizzard not allow reaction videos?
did blizzard change the rules?
I really confused and I have many questions. I play this game for 5 years. I enjoy playing Blizzard games. However, I have a strong feeling that I did not do something wrong and I should talk with Blizzard about this issue.
My English is not good. Sorry about that but Please help me if you can.
You broke the law when you posted Blizzards video, it’s that simple. The rules have not been changed and since it’s Blizzards video, not yours they asked for it to be removed.
It’s like if you posted Avengers:Endgame and put your reaction to it.
Youtube and game companies are very known for not representing freedom of speech on Youtube. Videos get ”copyright claims” every day because content creators often expose games as poorly made, or give comments on games which the game creators don’t like- so they report the video to Youtube.
The most disturbing thing of all is that Youtube always take the side to the ones which makes the report, despite that often no rules were broken when it comes to copyrights: It’s often just general gameplay or an ingame video here and there. In short it’s to silence content creators so that they don’t give a game bad reputation.
To be fair, Blizzard have always been very good about allowing people to post videos from their games. When YouTube went into a copyright panic, and started auto-removing YouTube videos of WoW, the YouTubers were unanimous in praising Blizzard for telling YouTube to back off IMMEDIATELY.
YouTube very specifically DO NOT take any sides. What they HAVE to do when a copyright claim is made against a video is spelled out very clearly in US law.
I don’t know the story behind this incident, or why Blizzard claimed this one, but they don’t usually strike reaction videos - there are zillions of them - so we may not have the full story.
I think a little digging into how copyrights work would help you. Almost everything has copyright on it, some just allow others to use their material (perhaps with restrictions). Not sure how it is with Blizzard’s content tho.
Claiming something had no copyrights gives me the feeling that you really have no clue how it works, yet you think you did nothing wrong.
Just read the links he gave you (if it really is from Blizzard). It may be as simple as that translating it unofficially triggered this.
Sorry to hear that happen. My only guess is that you may have posted a full video without cutting a few parts which made them mad (that’s what most youtubers do today in order to avoid copyright problems - mainly for audio). Otherwise, it’s really weird that something like that happened. I would talk to a GM.
As usall Dottie without cheking the claims, just post the first thing that comes on his mind.
To the OP they can demonotized your video if its not in line with there “fair use” claim, witch you can appeale to yt,its a long term process. But if your case is good then they should remove the ban.
If possible link the yt channel in question.
But if you simply made subbtitles to the english version and dint expect to get demonetized…then its your fault.
Here’s a thought you are probably a small YouTuber compared to the mainstream ones and Blizzard maybe didn’t give you permission to make a video about their cinematic thus they copyright striked you should have asked them for permission first. Also that Arabic person that reported it might found something you said offensive so he did it,just my 2 cents on this.
If all you did was translate then it could be considered theft since the video was unedited and wouldn’t fall under fair use.
Or there could just be some legal issues with WoW in your country.
Hard to say but reporting / disputing it will realistically turn out worse for you.
You tried to do a nice thing, and blizzard is another giant soulless company. I’d just cut your loses.
No, you are wrong, the OP posted content created by someone else without express permission and that is against the rules of copyright and youtube. A lot of people might not report it but if it is reported by the copyright owner then it has to be removed or they will sue Youtube.
That’s not always enough, you sometimes need the permission of the copyright holder.
For instance if I posted all of a commercial film and said the copyright belonged to 20th century fox they can still get it removed. The video the OP uploaded is part of a commercial product.
Yes it’s difficult nowadays to make any type of gaming content on YouTube unless you are really popular or a mainstream YouTuber for that perticular game.So many unecessary laws and restrictions to human free speech and expression it’s bonkers many wow YouTubers make the same kind of videos and nothing happened to them why?.
Chocoh, yes I did and not just this video. I did make Arabic subtitles for many videos and they all blizzard cinematics. I just got copyright strike on this one.
That could by why then. You could have miss translated something for example, which could of changed the video from the intended narrative. And when a big audience is watching YOUR translations, I can see why blizz might be annoyed.
Viewers might think it’s a legit blizz video with your translation. And you could of got it wrong and made out thrall wants to bone sourfang. And the assassins were there cos sylvy got jealous. Purely an example, not seen your video.
