How to RP a blademaster?

Very short:
What are the pitfalls and no-no’s and what tips would you give an RP’er that wanted to portray a blademaster?

step 1: bring a sword

step 2: be an orc

step 3: wear a banner on your back

step 4: Wear a kilt

  1. Play according to in lore (or if you want to stretch it HotS) in your abilities as one.

  2. Choose the correct orc clan.

  3. Have that banner toy from WoD timewalking that puts a burning blade banner on your back.

  4. Blademasters are similar to pandaren. Alll about wisedom, intellect, balance, honor and patience. Portray that in character.

  5. Though it is about patience and wisdom, don’t annoy peole with your things. A character that has only the trait “wisedom” is shallow. Give him more than that.

  6. Watch a video or two about japanese samurai and orcish clans / behavior.

Don’t think this has to be 100% correct considering you had plenty of blademasters who believed they were the chosen ones of the burning legion,

What everyone above said. However, there is one thing they forgot to mention:

Give your character a Japanese-sounding name.

Well that is true though I would think them as a minority similar to the feltotem tribe to tauren. Sadly we don’t have any numbers on that. In the end it comes down to, in roleplay anyways, what the player behind wants to roleplay.

If you want to roleplay a blademaster who allies himself with the Legion (or similar) then I can recommend playing monk for they got some nice fel looking shoulderpads which I forgot the name of. Think they drop in one of the WoD raids.

Otherwise play a warrior with a leather kilt. The class has amazing two handed swords that fit to a blademaster very well.

My favorite being:

this absolute beauty. It’s fitting to a blademaster very well.

Blademasters, as they appear in the WC3 world and RPG, use spells to enhance their fighting abilities, good to keep in mind!

One Blademaster that I played with two years ago did this pretty neat thing to emulate that stuff. He had two copies of his weapon, one regular and one fire enchanted. It’s a really simple thing, but it was pretty cool when he started getting serious and got his flame on. Burning Blade, literally. :fire:
Blademasters are really cool, but its one of those types of characters that can very easily go wrong if one is not careful with how they portray themselves.

Good think about what class you’d like to use to portray it. Warriors are an obvious choice, having access to the most amount of gear (a lot of in-game blademasters use plate kilts), though rogues can also work with their agility-focused abilities and stealth.

Monks look good on paper, with their acrobatic focus and similar philosophy/oriental theme, but sadly their fighting stance is entirely fist-focused. If you can look past that, then there’s a great opportunity in the fact every one of their weapons sheathes on the back.

Step 6: Make fruit ninja references.

Step 613: Remember that one Draenei Blademaster?

Thanks guys, especially those that gave some thought to their answers.

I’ve been away for quite some time - does this require doing pvp or how does one obtain those war chests?

I think this one’ll be unobtainable until the end of the expansion where they’ll allow you to buy them from a vendor for marks of honour. It’s a last season item.
