To keep a bonus for extra challenge as well as PvP focus I’d make it so there’s no passive bonus, but when warmode is on if you kill an enemy player you get exp equal to about 125% of whatever a standard quest issues at your level, divided by however many other players were in combat with them (this is to discourage people roaming in large groups ganking solo players to farm quick exp).
There would be a tag system, so if you kill X player, if you kill them again within 5 minutes, you get 75% less exp, scaling down until they award a mobs worth of exp, or you let it reset.
This would encourage players where they meet in warmode to actually fight eachother, as if you succeed, that’s effectively an extra quest. At the same time it discourages using players exclusively to farm exp by camping them
The only issue I could see is where alliance and horde communicate to try and game decent exp with planned killing of each other, but I don’t think this would be a major issue. Another issue would be multiboxers using other accounts to kill their own chars. But you simply make that a bannable offence.
What is wrong with bonuses? PvP is an activity, content for players to spend time in the game and bonus just compensates that time spent against players and if you are good at it, you can enjoy both PvP and more rewards.
It is a fair system. I never turn it off under normal circumstances. People who play this game without WM, they already don’t like PvP in the first place, hence their opinions can’t be valid and you are trying to kill PvP here by removing bonuses.
PvE players in PvP mode tend to have a bad time. Telling them they get less XP and rep when in PvE mode puts them in a bad spot where there is no good answer. Sure, it’s a choice they have agency over, but it’s a crap choice.
They feel like they should turn WM on for the gains, but they still don’t want to engage in PvP. They will take every opportunity to avoid combat, they will run back to a nearby NPC camp if attacked, and are generally not useful to the people who are in WM to actually have PvP encounters. Every time WM players complain about their faction running away; that’s why it happens.
Leave PvP to people who enjoy PvP, and stop making PvE players feel bad whatever they do.
I was trying to say that the bonus is rendered redundant as soon as PvP happens.
I agree that War Mode should not be for leveling faster, at least not while trying to avoid PvP instead of being rewarded for engaging in it.
If you do the math between 10 and 50 of questing, a 30% is a big chunk.
Especially when considering all the heritage sets that need unlocking.

And the simple fact of the matter is that it’s an unfair system. If it rewarded based on PvP activities; fine. But it doesn’t. It rewards PvE activities and that’s just wrong.
