How Would You Improve This Forum?

It’s pretty harsh one can lose it even just from an extended forum break.

I was doing incredible things with it Acrona, things people had never seen before. The forum posters would say “Wow, what a guy. Look at the way he’s using that trust level 3.”

It’s a real shame that they’ve taken it away from me, unfairly I would say.

That you need to log in on most days (i.e. at least half of the past 100 days) is what lost me mine. I just want to post my screenshots of server campaigns, man.

I am actually surprised that the WoW forums doesnt use the same forum system the other Blizzard ones do.

In that you post on your account, not individual characters.

I think something like that (With the option to maybe give yourself a character as a face/name) would be better than the current system.

A vast majority of issues we’ve had on the forums has been from or related altposting and using that to spread harassment in various forms.

But overall, the biggest fix that is actually needed is better moderation.

It also kills the opportunity for feedback and meaningful debates. If someone can’t cite a specific source from the game itself via a screenshot or a link to an article elsewhere then it discourages a lot of people from bothering to put themselves out there in the first place.

People talk about things that peeve them in there constantly buddy.

I’d go with the previous suggestion of battletag to stop people alt hopping to abuse report systems or to pretend to be someone else to garner faux support for things.

Without turning it into too much of that, I do find it really weird how much it seems to bother some people that there exists a thread for just sort of general AD chatting. I guess some people are just very petty.

If they were to implement such a change then they would need to actually take stalking more seriously than they do at present.

Final Fantasy XIV was notorious for allowing stalking to thrive, as anyone who knew someone’s character name could find them readily even if was changed or they moved to a completely different server/data centre.

Concerns over things like not trusted link/unsafe links would be easily preventable by instead of limiting it to trust level 3, just greenlight some commonly used websites like Imgur, Youtube and wowhead etc.

And of course, active and better moderation incase someone does post something inappropriate.

As with most of the forums problems, this would ideally be solved by more responsive and better moderation. Currently as it stands, it varies wildly what gets actioned and how fast.

Instead of using the BTag or whatever, we should have a forum “name” to replace it, but one that’s universal. So acts as the same thing, just not the BTag itself 'cause some of us have our IRL name on that LOL

Nah it should just be a free BTag name change (something that costs a fee currently on BNet) so the numpties who made that mistake can correct it.

Oh yeah it should absolutely NOT be RealID, I was more thinking B.tag itself.

Or something like a set forum name, just have it all tied to one account that posts, not individual characters.

No more threads in which alliance players answer they don’t know?

Oh, absolutely. Sadly with the way things are going AI moderation seems to be the current ‘go to’ for a lot of businesses.

I’m not sure I’m legally allowed to say what I’d change.

So I’ll go with the broad concensus of an actual moderator team made of people who can read.

Tbh caring who plays on the server or that people posting here play, implies the forums have an impact beyond idle curisosity from most. They don’t.

It doesn’t matter all that much if steve who hasn’t played in five years posts, the people on the server who post know if steves reality is true or not. And the rest of the playerbase don’t know or care steve exists.

I think it matters because there are people who come to these forums to ask about RP. To follow your example, getting answers from someone who hasn´t been subbed in 5 years means they´re getting answers that are years old.

It would be like asking about current state of the game and being told: “It´s garbage, you need to grind Heart of Azeroth, Corruptions and the talent trees are just boring with 7 rows with 3 options, nothing like the good old trees”.
(Which, OK, it´s a bit ironic given that we´ll get Corruptions in about a month, but whatever)
