How Would You Improve This Forum?

Basically the thread title.

How would you like this realm forum, or its community, to be?

What would you like to be different?

  1. People without a subscription wouldn’t be able to post here. Only to the Customer support/bug forums
  2. Stop having this forum be at the ‘top’ or whatever it does that has random general discussion people drop in with their topics that don’t fit the Argent Dawn stuff.

  1. Readd Signatures, they were a nice little addition to the old forums.
  2. Readd the Downvote option without it causing a post to be hidden or deleted. Right now too many people report posts they disagree with or just don’t like the poster.
  3. Same as Tenasa mentioned, limit all Forums bar the Customer/Tech Support ones to require an active subscription to be able to post.
  4. With the above in mind add the BattleTag of the player to every post, which is the same way all other Blizzard game forums work already. The WoW Forums are the only ones where the only identifier is the in-game character.
To avoid doxxing everyone should also get one free BattleTag name change should this come to pass (it won’t, but a man can dream…)

Easier to manage ignore lists would come a long way.

I think people would use the Downvote button far more than the Report function to annoy people they don’t like. Glad it was removed, and hope it’ll never come back. In my opinion it didn’t add anything positive to the forums, encouraged popularity contest type behaviour, and discouraged some people from posting altogether.

How I’d improve the forums - have the pinned posts reviewed annually or something, especially as they jump out more now due to the visual update. We have a pin or two that contain outdated info / no longer relevant links / the threads aren’t used anymore. There’s no proper report option for them, and not all can be commented on due to the lock, to highlight the outdated parts.

Edit:

Other than that, make the forum trust level EXP transparent to users somewhere on their account so they know what they need to do to unlock the features of each level.

I take downvotes over account bannings every day of the week tbh

It’s not a “one or the other” situation. People might still report comments they dislike while downvoting them at the same time.

And when I say people, really all I mean are the few crazies who do it. I think it’s possible to hide a post by yourself, you just need to switch characters (or accounts, which are free).

not sure to be honest, how one would improve these forums.
There’s a lot of features that are disabled that would be amazing for providing better content, especially on this specific forum.
But as was pointed out, the amount of abuse that comes from it…

I would eliminate the “description” stuff they started to display in the last update.
Completely throws off the browsing experience.
Not sure how much of a bad idea it is, but enabling the DM functionality would be great, so you can contact people.
Or even properly tag people…

All of the above, plus:

Remove or move threads that are blatantly not what they are on their actual title. A certain P P channel comes to mind…

Actual moderation and not a system that can be abused to automatically take down posts via an arbitrary threshold.

Posts being hidden for getting flak is fine (you can just click to view or skip over), but the system has been abused quite thoroughly over the years.

Not a fan of the trust system either. Everyone should have the ability to post images, gifs and links (if they have an active subscription). However any abuse of this results in no longer being able to do the above.

I would also remove Akamito.

A return to a proper human moderation team that might actually take a look at flagged or mass-alt-reported posts made by a spiteful few and actually do something about posts spreading blatant bigotry that at times get left up far longer than they should be

All of what was mentioned above as well as removing any and all moderation not pertaining to spam. I have recently decided that the internet was a much more interesting and cooler place when it was a lawless (for the most part) frontier and not treated like someone’s actual life.

I’d get rid of trust levels altogether. There are many individuals who do not post frequently enough to meet the criteria. As far as I see it, if you have an account in good standing, then you should have free access to all features of the forum.

To help prevent abuse on that front, I would also make it so that anyone seeking to post on the forum has an active subscription at the time. Or at least has subscribed to the game within the last three months.

I would also get rid of the MVP system. I think it is rather outdated and prone to abuse.

Other than that? I would like more official polls intended to gather feedback. Looking at the reaction to the dinar system I cannot help but believe that a lot of problems would be mitigated if feedback were gathered more efficiently in advance.

I’m in favor of the trust system mostly because, with the current moderation level, it helps prevent plenty of inappropriate and malicious content / links on the forums. When it takes effort to unlock the features, most people don’t wish to risk losing them. Also unsure if we’d see more bot activity on the forums if the barriers were removed?

Regardless, I do think the requirements to reach Trust Level 3 should be much lighter than they currently are.

To be fair, this also has its downsides.

Threads like: “Hey! I quit WoW back in BFA and I’m looking to get back into it! How’s Horde RP doing?” would cease to exist.
